2008 Dodge 3500 CTD 6.7L buying advice

I have an 09 2500 Mega (11/08 build date) and have nearly all positive things to say about the vehicle. I believe, as has been stated above, that the newer flashes have helped the problems that plagued many of the earlier 07.5-08 models.

I have recently done all of the deletes after running several thousand miles stock to see if there would be a sign for an impending warranty claim. Hopefully removing the emissions garbage will increase mileage and longevity. It is far to early to tell what my mileage will settle at.....I have been enjoying the extra power by pushing the skinny pedal a lot more than I used to!

Bone stock, EGR plugged in, running empty I would see 17-18 mpg highway. Depending on what I was towing mileage would drop as low as 10-11.

FWIW, you can simply unplug the EGR connector thereby disabling it from working. This will cause a CEL but will not void the warranty and not pump a bunch of soot through your engine. Most claim 1-3 mpg increase by doing this. Before taking it to the dealer simply plug it back in for a couple of starts and the CEL will clear itself.

Check out www.cumminsforum.com for all the info that you can process on these vehicles.

Good luck in your search!

I have an 07 2500 6.7L I have had no problems with it. I am getting 21 Mpg on highway unloaded. It is a mega cab. just took it to the mountains hauling enclossed 28 ft trailer 4 sleds and 4 guys and travelling at avg 74 mph and averaged 14mpg. I have done nothing except put larger tires on.

I love my truck.

Is that hand calculated or what the display says? I dont mean to say that your mileage is wrong in any way but that is 3-4 mpg better than anything I have read and or spoken with people about. The only way I have heard anyone breaking 17mpg is with the deletes. Again not saying your wrong just asking.

I wouldn't trade my 2008 3500 6.7 unless for a 2010 model. Just by unplugging your EGR, will get 3 mpg. The 2010 should be just around the corner, might want to check it out if your looking at new.

Had an 03 2500 5.9 with about 450hp to the wheels, $10 000 in powertrain upgrades and still broke stuff. Too unreliable, last victim was T-case $3500.
08 6.7 3500 Megacab Laramie, absolutely love it. 20k on it and not one problem. In the mornings I turn on the high idle and the exhaust brake and it's warm in 5 mins easy.
Gets the same mileage as my old 03, I just can't pass anything I want anymore.
If your concerned do the Deletes, go with an H&S Black Max (you'll like it!)

Sounds like you got robbed. I have an 06 5.9l Twin Turbo 6 speed and it rocks pullin my 25' trailer with 3 Turbo sleds and gear for 10 guys!! I have been looking at the 010's though..... If I was getting a new one it would be a 6.7 with the deletes. Good luck on your deal!

Thanks for the advice!

Thanks to everyone for their advice. I ended up picking up a truck last weekend. 2007 Dodge 2500 4x4 Quad Longbed 5.9l CTD manual. Low miles, still under factory b2b warranty. Didn't find the Laramie I was hoping for, but still pretty satisfied as I got a pretty good deal.

Mods are already rolling around in my mind. Need to get an amp installed first for my sub box, then some kinda covers (KatSkinz or Coverking maybe) to mask that SLT interior. Then leveling kit, airbags, sled deck.. ugh. First off I need to recover from this purchase though. :beer;

2008 dodge 2500 mega 6.7

hey guys i recently purchased a 2008 dodge mega 2500 6.7 liter, as far as i know it is stock other than a airaid intake, and rear airbags. I will be adding 20's and 35's with a level kit. From what im hearing alot can be done its out of warranty so id like to open it up! Any suggestions on what do to do? and how do i go about doing it? i will mostly be using it for a sled deck and occasionally hauling a 4 place enclosed trailor, Also im not sure if it has had the 09 reflash or not the dealer had no idea what i was talking about? if i can save money at the pump and add extra power... Wells thats a no brainer! thanks guys
