2007 Summit X air box delete

Have seen a couple pictures of guys removing the air box and running straight filters on the carbs. Maybe weight loss or adding performance?

I know this would shed a few lbs but does the performance suffer because of not getting cool air? Also wondering about the fine clutch dust...Not really sure on the amount of air flow constriction that a filter would have compared to the box as well...

Any thoughts?

Little to no weight loss and makes less power....keep the stock box and add additional intake area if clogging is an issue.

I differ from Winters statement! last year I dyno'd 189hp stock box.. The next day with the same weather With LOTS of venting and K&N filters and pre-filters I dynod 193..

It is a giving that less restriction will result in more power. The task you will have to do is keep the air cool/cold to your carb. Which in turn means more venting!

A 193 HP stock '07 800?

I was referring to a stock or near stock 800.....and the airbox designed for it's CC and RPM will always work best.
Unless you radically change the engines airflow or RPM, then there are times filters are beneficial.....rarely on a mtn. sled.

I agree on the stock sled. That it would be a waiste. But personally, manytimes we have seen a increase in power on the Rev chasis when adding open cone style filters to a modded sled. As little as 1-2hp with just piped and race porting..

First i would like to know what you are running at 193 hp. I,m running what I know is the strongest 07 with the full mod 880 race motor with race crank balanced ,trued welded and lightened.Custom cylinders with O rings in the head,Custom engine tech head, Gas pressure valve mod,Aaen pipe can and Y pipe,Reeds,Fully coated pistons with 12 oil holes in skirts,Custom jetting from the dash on the fly,Egt,s.Oil delete,TeamTied and Toms primary setup ect and my best guess is 185 ish hp.And this motor will lose power without the airbox.tested many times, The 07 has good flow and installing two flowrites on the left cover directly into the outer box allows for mega flow.5 mod 860,s XP were not even close to this motor.

well sounds like the vote is for the stock airbox. works for me- same performance, no extra cost buying filters seems like a win win deal.

Whats the vote for a little extra seat of the pants performance for a couple hundred bucks.... av (higher octane) gas? nitrous kit? just looking to get a little more out of it, not enough coin for a turbo or anything...

Clutching and track were the biggest improvements I made to my '07....assuming it has the Camo-lite track and stock clutching.

Hey Winter would a 151x16x2 off an 05 rev(challenger I think) be better than the CAMO? Will it swap right in or is the drivers different?

I would probably be a rare yes vote for pods. I like the kick *** filters, I tried a set of k and n's and I thought they were junk. I had a set on my 04 ho summit and it seemed to run a little stronger than the other 800 ho'
s in our group. I am going to give them a go in my 07 and see how they work I will let everyone know what I think after I go for my first ride in a couple of weeks.
