2007 m8 Anything I should know?

On saturday i am going to look at a 2007 m8 153 that i would like to purchase. My previous sled was a 2002 summit 700 so i would consider this quite an upgrade. I was just wondering from all you guys runnin these sleds if you have ever had any problems with them or if there is anything i should look at first before buying it. Any input would be appreciated. The sled is completely stock and only has 342 miles on it which i would consider barely broke in. Thanks.:beer;

I have fallen in love with my 07 M8! It has around 2000 miles with no problems at all! It is very smooth running and easy to throw around!
It does not feel like it has arm pulling power but it has allot of torque that pulls hard and does not let go! Once you have reverse you will never go back! I do wish it started the engine up backwards like the 09's! I am planning on putting a bear claw track on her soon:)

Nice pictures letitsnow. Those pictures make waiting for the snow to fly even harder! Thats exactly what I am hopin to hear. I have done quite a bit of research on the m8 and really haven't found anything bad with them. Now we just need some snow like in you pictures...

Look for ABUSE

Often the low mileage cheap sleds were bought by pilgrims who wanted to get their feet wet in sledding, couple trips and sled wrecks and they are fed up with sport?

Look for chewed up track lugs and hyfax stuck to clips, cracked paint around all suspension welds and upper a arms aluminum frame tab cracks, big bottom of ski gouges, toasted oil tank or power valve cables on the 07 m8.

All that is good, yeah likely just a low mileage discouraged sledder and a good buy.

M8 as a rule has low rate of repair and low warranty issues. Read all clutching threads, cheap parts and she's a runner, $600 up grade? sell track put on new power claw track.

My buddy rides an 07 M8 with a 153 and it is a great sled. The one thing on the 07 that is a must is the right clutching. They came set up terrible from cat that year but a clutch kit from RKT or Racinstation makes a ton of difference. My buddy did the team setup from Racinstation and installed an SLP can and it runs like a champ. The cans don't make any power but sound much better and lose some weight. Some cans that have tested well and are not obnoxious are Skinz super Q, HPS, and slp. Great sled and very reliable. Make sure the diamond drive has been serviced and if not have it done before the sledding season starts. You can't go wrong with this machine, it may not be the highest on the hill but it will get you back to the truck with confidence and they handle sweet, plus there is a ton of upgrades you can do to it over the years if you want.

07 m8s blow, if i were u i would wait till guys that are getting the 09s start selling the 08s and pick an 08 up cheap. that would be your best bet. my 08 runs like a top for stock, 08 the way to be.

You my friend obviously dont know your a$$ from a whole in the ground:beer;:D.....the kid was asking for help not criticism:mad:.....

i have a 07 M8 that i picked up new from Kevin at Mountain Magic Sports(great guy) and it runs flawless, had them set up my clutches and they work perfect:D.....

Anyways Huntersmith44 if its a nice sled buy it up, you wont be let down, i actully came off the same sled you have, but some good things to do for the sled are no-sno's, vent kit, two-wheel kit, can, and a good intake, maybe some risers and you will be set and you will fall in love as i did! AC for life:beer;:D:beer;:D

Great Sled. Bought my 07 M8 last december, rode about 900 miles. I upgraded from a 98 RMK 600 :eek:And what a year. All i did last year was a 5.25 riser (no cable extensions:)) this year looking at some upgrades. Biggest gripe has been the foot rails clogging with snow. I have heard sno eliminators help a TON, but I ahve not done yet. I rode in as much as 4 feet of the fresh this last season and had a blast. If you are getting a good deal on the sled, you are gonna be PSYCHED! :beer;I am learning there are a ton of mods that can really upgrade the machine.

m8

catsledman is right! I Love my sled and it was low mileage when I got it but it had been some rough miles I found when I saw the bulkhead under the airbox was bent a little and a weld cracked. Did it hurt the performance? nope ,fixed it up and put over 1500 on this year. Great sled ,moter is pretty bulletproof, tough susp. fun to ride, easy to mod. 2 must-do mods imo, #1- no-snos#2- 3 inch riser Oh yeah #3 get that clutching right.

Very reliable sled. Solid frame and bullitproof engine. The clutching was bad from the factory. I put 73.5 g TT Speedwerks weights in the primary and I have no complaints. Other than that I would leave it stock for a year and just ride it. There are many things you can do to the Ms because they are so popular. Seats, eliminators, cans, rear bumper kits, etc. etc. You wouldn't be sorry IMO

just another positive post for the 07 m-8......call kevin at mt. magic, 208-852-0400, for a good clutch set-up....the rest of the sled is about as good as it gets.....when checking a used sled, the previous posts have good comments.....i also look at how the sled has been stored, out behind the barn, or in dry storage inside, a few questions about maintainence,,,does it start by the third pull....over all condition....track looks good....just the obvious stufff, and also opinion of the owner, does he seem like someone who would have taken care of it.....but the sled is a very good choice

bought mine new in 07. no problems at all. like all sleds the more money you put into it the better it is. i bought an 09 m8 this year and kept the 07

He's kinda right, but missing an easy point...
The big problem with the 07 was the ecu, depending on whether you want to mod it heavily or not. The ecu on the 07 was a few notches off but you could mod the hell out of them without a box, so it's an advantage to some folks. Most importantly, the 08 ecu upgrade is free & is a recall item at your local dealer, so having the 08 setup is pretty easy to get.
The other main difference is the skid, which can be swapped out for about $500 to a float skid thanks to the new cf kit. I think this is nearly a neccesity to make a good sled great.

I had an 07 m8 before I started with my 1000's, it was a great sled that took very little modding to make it feel very smooth & snappy and it loves to climb.
