2005 summit highmark 1000

I have had mine since new and had several computer updates done, have 2500 miles, had cracked front cooler, now use rear one , had new fuel pump installed tends to run a bit rich so added a boondockers control box , be aware lot of guys burning down running too lean using the box, about 1 -2 jet<no.-5 -10> in higher elevation, > sizes max on top end, , added can and v- force 3 reeds about it. Runs in the deepest powder as good or better than any other sled, a little heavy but in deep powder dont notice it. Even runs very good down the trail, handles the whoops and stuttter bumps very well. And in an all out drag race only a couple sled lenghts off the brand new sleds with shorter tracks. my 2 cents. Oh changed the clutching a bit took out steel arms replaced with aluminum and added max pin weight and changed springs ,now backshift awesome, dropped gearing couple 1 tooth on top and added a couple on bottom. I would say 2 major problems to check are front cooler and fuel pump, I am sure other guys may have had different problems than me

Front cooler--biggest problem---had mine welded in 06 after it started leaking--just started leaking agian this year. We are bypassing the front cooler now--no rear cooler. We are trying just the tunnel cooler--will haave to be careful on any hard pack--ice scratchers and some water wetter and see how it works.
Other than that--computer updates--the 07 mid altitutude program seems to work the best--then if ya want add a control box for higher alt.
I love my 1000, but it also needs clutching work and venting for the clutchs.

I have had mine since it was new and since i have blown a motor and had fuel pump problems and this weekend broke my drive chain! I love the sled but it seems to be beaking down alot.

heat exchanger top end melt down

had front heat exchanger start leaking bypassed 75 miles later had a top end melt down. is the front heat exchanger worth taking out? for weight loss while i have the engine out?

The front cooler is part of the bulkhead, you will have to fashion a plate to cover the hole created. I did not remove the front cooler on mine.

I have blown a motor as well--had the front cooler break twice and the lower gear fall off and strip the driveshaft when it was new. A few probs--oh well--I still have not rode sled I would trade it for.

As far as not running the front and rear coolers--Mine is that way now and I found as long as I run the ice scratchers on the groomed or hard pack--NO probs with temp. All is good.

thngs i would be concerned with on an rt are:
fuel pump
front cooler (remove rear and bypass the front seems to be the concensus)
relays
erave adjustment
clutching (dj's kit all the way)
venting
sway bar (if you trail ride alot id leave it other wise, bye bye)
updated fuel map

anything else guys?

i agree that, on a good day, i havent found a sled that id trade my rt for. its heavy but you can get quite a bit off for free. after that is all up to how much $$$ you want to dump into it. timbersleds got a rear skid they are claiming drops 20 lbs... that would be huge.

i would definatly take out my front cooler if i had the motor out. free weight loss. imagine it would be 5-7lbs
