hey everyone

looking at a 2005 skidoo summit 800 for my dad and i am wonder what are the pros and cons of this sled?

i tried to do a lil research and havent really found anything.. i was told bye a friend that they had issues with the 05 800's with loosing there top end at 1100-1600 miles.. is this true? anything else that i should look out for with them?

any help would be great.

thanks

The stock top end had single rings and would go b/t 1500 and 2000 miles. I have an 05 and it runs awesome. No electronics, so easy to work on. You will want to make sure it has had a top end put in, or negotiate that in the price and do it yourself. I did a full rebuild at 4k miles, new crank and put MCB dual ring pistons in. So far so good. Really like how it pulls. Have heard that the '06 is the best out of the box REV.

thank you very much!!!

we are goign to go look at this sled tonight... it has 1100 miles on it... it is completely stock.. would a compression check tell us if it is weak or something???

I have the same sled, 05 summit 800 151. Awesome snowmobile. I havent had any problems at all since i got it. I would definately encourage buying this sled.

how many miles do u have on it?? i am concerned about the top end thing.

how much is a sled like this worth right now???

I only have 550 miles on mine. Mine is worth around 5000 right now, but i have a few extras on it. Bone stock with 500 miles the sled would probably be worth about $4500?

ok.. thanks

gonna head down and look at the sled now.. will let u know what we find out..

it has 1100 miles on it completely stock.. but he is asking about 1000 more then what u think its worth. so will see what happens

thanks for the help

I paid 4K for mine '05 2 years ago. My buddy just bought an '07 for 4900 with 1900 miles on it. I would say that 4500 would be the top I would go depending on if it was bone stock or had anything done to it.

I just picked up an 04 Rev a couple months ago for 3300 and it was under 2000 miles so I'm not sure if i would go 4500. There are a lot of good deals on these revs right now if you just keep your eyes open.

And by the way, went out over thanksgiving and rode this sled and it was awesome, you wont be disappointed if you go with any rev.

04-05 Rev Summits ran like scalded dogs! Very consistent running machines. However I’d only push the motor to about 2500 miles max before replacing the pistons & rings! 06’s came out with better pistons and chrome rings which took care of the issues.
May want to re-grease the outer crank bearings (PTO & Mag) while you’re at it but probably not needed!
I’ve been very happy with my 05 159X. A little clutching and SLP head has made it very competitive even with today’s new assume sleds!
You’ll want to take a good look at the front end. They tend to bend pretty easy when you hit something. With the sled on a good flat surface, skis facing straight forward. Check to see if both skis line up evenly ski tip to ski tip. If one is further back then the other, there’s probably a problem!
There good machines, you won’t be disappointed.

thanks for all the replies.

we went and looked at the sled. was a super clean sled.. only 1150 miles on it. had an hps can on it.

after talking to the guy we couldnt get him to come down on his price as he is asking 5550 for it.. and well we dont feel its worth that much.

also found an 07 skidoo summit 800 151 (red and white color)

it comes with this:
Goldfinger Left Throttle, factory clutch upgrade, reverse, 806 miles and still on the original belt.

new belt, extra spark plugs, Ski-Doo accessory bag, sled cover w/ hood dust cover, accessory gas can, and new shovel

anyone know anythign about this sled??? whats it worth?

thanks for the help

The 07s had the new 800r engine in them and are basically ticking time bombs if they don't have all the factory updates. Just do a search on this forum cuz there are tons of posts about the problems they had. If it does have all the updates though, those sleds were one of the best running sleds around and were very smooth to ride, with plenty of power.
