finally someone that tells the truth. here i thought skidoos only had trouble.

'07 fuel mapping, lose rear cooler, keep intake well filtered, lighten up as much as possible, Hi-altitude clutch setup from Doo(if you're riding above 7000'). Roller setup on secondary helps. A new/good battery will solve many hiccups on this sled. The motor seems to be near bullet proof. Boondocker box helps. Aftermarket heads help also. They had fuel pump issues, make sure this has been replaced.(the pump under the motor)

finally a productive reply. thanks

Mines been good, just a little heavy when you're stuck,,, Mines almost at 3000 miles, so I'm thinking of re-freshing the top end and getting some fresh ISO grease in the crank bearings as it seems a couple have had crank issues somewhere about the 3K mark,,, My sig has what I've messed with.

What max said... Intake filters are a must. Also, the Erave exhaust valve system needs to be clean and set right. There are two fuel pumps, a low pressure one and a high pressure one. Replace the low pressure one and put the new one in front of the right footwell instead of under the engine.

Other than that, they are solid and an amazing performer, if just a tad heavy.

i think they have been around enough that all the issues can be worked out pretty easily and the updates are readily availible... go for it, i just did, and after ripping around the field i cant wait to feel it pull in the deep.

B4 you do anything - Get the VIN off the sled, and go to the local dealer and request a print-out of the service history it doesnt matter what dealer they all have the same data available through BossWeb. After some interpretation that will tell you what has or hasnt been updated, (there was a series of changes, described partially in previous posts) and you will know where you need to start. If the dealer is worth a handfull of beans he will give you the Service bulletin updates for that sled of what BRP said needed to be done. If its not up to date already, (Basically 06 fall specs for sea level, and 07 specs for higher altitude, the updates should have been done under warranty) ask them if they will honor what has not been done yet, then you can decide if you want to go ahead with the purchase. They may say that you will have to pay for the updates, if you arent the original purchaser. I found that sometimes the warranty is non transferable. So you may want to make a deal with the current owner if you need to, to get the stuff done on BRP's pocket.

I have put my RT to the test, and love it. I havent seen any XP that can EVEN come close to it, regardless of conditions, dont believe the hype, horsepower and traction are king of the hill. I bought my sled as a demo, in which it had a funky homemade powder intake on it that damaged the PTO piston from snow ingestion. Once I fixed that I have put on 1000 miles so far, and about 400 since mods were done, I run mostly 0-3k feet, ride some trails on occasion and it performs excellent in the bumps, but mostly ride off trail in the Kenai - Chugach mountains which are like the Cascades and I have Bikeman 6-9k head domes, Crank Shop twin pipes, gutted the airboxes, and put on a Racepak Avenger 2, and all the updates along with the 06 sea level fuel mapping and added a with a TFI fuel box, which I have had to take fuel away from the entire curve to get EGT's above 1100, still way fat, I have had some plug fouling issues but it was quickly cured with a set of NOLOGY spark amplifiers and I run BR8EYA plugs per Big John, and threw away the rear cooler because it would not ever warm up enough to run right (allow full timing and fuel). I have also added a Thundershift kit in the primary, run a stock 05 button secondary, and have no belt issues so far. It still runs cold as long as there is any powder and has more useable power than any of my old Mach Z big bore triples ever dreamed of, along with getting better fuel economy than my sons 500MXZ. I have yet to need the spare fuel can on a average day trip of 70 to 80 miles, and usually end up pouring it into the tank just to lighten the tail. I have the 162X model and A tricked out lightened up big bore T-cat 1107 with a 151 could barely pull me on the river in 6-8" of fresh when the RT was all stock with a can. It true that the RT is a bit heavy by todays flimsy standards but there are many things that can be shed, and its really not bad anyway if you are used to an old 800RMK gen2 or edge, like I was used to a tripple. I am not intending to sell my RT any time soon, at least until something with as much performance comes along, and right now the ONLY thing that has come close is the big kitty. I do have some tunnel mods, a diamond drive and a M-10 and a 144 track to add this year, I have never needed the 162 yet, so I am going shorter and lighter. Hope this helps. Cody

I had an 05 RT and the engine was amazing. Great torque, great runner, and even the gas mileage was awesome. But comparing it to the XP....it does not outclimb the XP. I weigh 280 w/o gear and my XP would highmark it any day. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great sled. Shed as much weight as you can. I noticed when I was taking a line up a hill, if something bumped me off it was hard to adjust and often had to turn around and come back down. But my XP adjusts easily because it's just so light. I miss the torque of the RT and the fuel injected engine that runs so tight. Go for it, if the updates are done and you take off some weight it will be a great sled for you. And take off the stabilizer bar. Good luck!

Turn the sled on its side and look for any signs of cracks in the front heat exchanger, that was a problem on some of the 05s, I had one that did it.

hardcore AK thanks for that post, it was really informative fore somebody starting on an RT this season, mine is a 162 stretched to a 162, but i have a 151 from my last sled, so i may try and slap it on if i have to much track... the 1000 motor has BALLS, it pulls so much harder than anything i have ridden. its a lot like my buddies modded King cat

its basically the difference between modded dieseld and cars, one is way heavier, but half the time the diesel wins races cuz it has so much damn power.

when i grass drag mine to keep the summer hours occupied, i can only pull 3 sled lenghts in the field over my dads stock M7, sounds like a problem, but the problem i have is the 162 wont stay put the power to the ground, it just spins. the few times i got it to hook up hard i have to let off cuz the ski-lift and launch is so hard.
