2005 M7 - What turbo to buy?

Hi guys,

I have used the search function on the forum, but am looking for some opinions on my options on putting a turbo on my M7,

I am coming off a Turebo RX1, which had great power and was extremely reliable

- What are the advantages of the Boondocker, Culter or twisted kits for the M7?

- What fuel controller to use?

- I want to run AV gas, what boost (Hp) will i be able to acheive?

- What is the reliabilty of these sleds with Turbo's? Any "problems" I should be aware of?

- What other mod's to the sled do I need to do after adding the Turbo( ie more vents, injector etc)

thanks alot, I know that this question has been asked alot, but I haven't paid much attention to the Turbo Cat sleds, as I have been riding a yamaha,

thanks

im not so sure thats the sled to turbo.05-06 m's have power supply issues for driving the big fuel pumps.i have an aero w/ the stock pump, and it just barely supplies enough fuel for the little 53 at 9.5 lbs.
to the best of my knowledge, no one has found a good solution to the power supply issues on these.

w/ 100ll (depending on elevation) 7 lbs should be doable.

Two guys that I ride with finally gave up on the M7 turbos do to fueling problems. The were spending way more time fixing the sleds than riding. They are both on Yamaha turbos now. Good luck with the M7 turbo, I have heard the M8 is a better canidate for the turbo.

The M8 is supposed to be better with a turbo. I've heard some good stories about them, but if I was going to spend the money I'd go with the 300hp. nitro turbo. I rode one and it would make me switch (if I had the money), but someday. I don't think i'd waste my time with anything less. That nitro was unfathomable and thats not a big enough word for it.

Overall, dont do it.

Depends on what you want. But, I wouldnt do it if I were you.

For an auto turbo, big boost, IF YOU MUST, I would consider going directly to Brad Story and have him modify whichever kit you end up with to use a battery inline to deal with all the power consumption issues you will face. DWHalverson on here has an early BradS turbo using a battery setup. He has very few issues (if any) and runs 14-18lbs of boost consistently. I think the only complaint Ive heard from him is breaking Y-pipes.

Im with MtnMike on a low boost, 2 injector Aero kit which you could find used in the swap meet for two thousand bux or so, and settle. Not too much cash out, and will give you some additional grins.

What you will find out there is that seemingly none of the kit mfgs care about the 6 and 7 kits anymore. Theyve moved on to the 8's and dont like to look back, so support is an issue.

Totally untrue! Shain will take good care of you with the twisted turbo on the m7 (I am running one) . The m7 pioneered the turbo boom that is going on today, if it didn't work do you think they would be as popular. A capasitor fixes the electrical issue. Started a thread in the pro/mod section about the electrical issue, watch it for how electrical was fixed.

I do have one of Brad's original kits and have had very few issues with it or the vintage BD box. This is my third season on the same battery. I finally did have a fuel pressure regulator die and it would over fuel at boost above 10psi. Will try the new regulator this weekend. I'm not sure Brad would or can build you a kit anymore, but I would not have any issue with Shain building one for you. Not sure what max boost would be but, I have heard they come apart at 20psi. Mine started with a GT3076 and it just railed on top end--stupid fast. A little sluggish off the line but not bad. I now run the GT2871 and like it better all around and yes it still hauls a$$!! The GT2860 was the turbo most of the kits came with and worked very well but I think they ran higher charge temps causeing some consistancy issues. I like the weight of the M-7 and have rode the stock M-8's and can't really feel any more bottom end over the M-7. I'm still kicking around the idea of doing an 800 big bore ported for the turbo for some more down low.
