2002 mountain cat pipe

Hi,
Have a 2002 mc that I purchased with a D&D pipe and can. But I do not see any type of fuel controller on it, is this even possible?

I started it after it has sat for a couple days, but it seem to take alot of pulls to get it started the first time. (Like more than 12). When i pull the plugs out they seem to be wet. Any one have any ideas?

With D&D can and pipe you will have an issue with a lean mid(its a hot timing curve). It will pop if you hold it at partial throttle. Can run some race gas, or run stock can. Pulling the ethanol wire will not give you enough safety in the mid(EFI I assume).

Also running a aftermarket can does heat the stator up more than normal and can cause it to burn up the ignition circuit. I had to re-wound my stator at 1700 miles, may symptoms can be caused by a stator and not starting is one of them. You can get an volt meter and check if you have volts to fuel pump or just pull the fuel line off and see if you have pressure.

Ya so its not necessary to have a fuel control of any sort?...once i get the sled runnin it runs great.. and also my recoil is not recoiling back in anymore unless u really play with it..is ther a spring or something inside them that goes bad?...cuz the recoil is still fully functional it just doesnt retract worth a ****. yes it is efi and i have 13:1 compression sled junkie heads...the weird thing is that in the summer it would start in one pull very seldom 2. now when it was 10 degrees out the other day it took about 30 pulls..then the next weekend it was 40 degrees out and it took 4 pulls...then today it was 20 degrees out and it started in 10..well of course after toying with the string for a couple minutes between pulls..and it ll fire right up after its been running just fine...any help appreciated thanks

Check the wires going to the temp sensor in the coolant line. when the water temp is cold that sensor is supposed to tell the ECU to push more fuel in at start up. I can check the wire colors when I go home tonight if you need.

Also, not saying the other guy is wrong but I run a D&D pipe with a Speedwerx y, V force Reeds and 13.6:1 head all with the ethanol plug still connected and it works great at 2,000 to 7,000 feet. As said above I NEVER hold the throttle steady unless wide open on a climb. I also run 1 gallon of 110 per tank since the gas starting having ethanol but I ran this same setup on straight pump 92 prior to the ethanol.

Ok, i can do that. if you would check the wire colors for me that would help alot. do know anything about the recoil not retracting? if i take it apart it will probably tell me everything
thanks

Mines a Carb, im guessing I dont need a fuel controller? Does it still have that mid range lean spot or is that EFI only? And does it have this ethanol wire? (this is all new to me, lol)

My Recoil was exactly the same last year, I just pulled it apart and rewound the spring, kinda tricky but not too hard to get done. Now its much better.

I will check the wire colors tonight and post them.

fishtank, yes carb models do have the same midrange lean problem. Just vari the throttle a bit by not staying in the mid constantly and u will be alright.

The wires are black and yellow. I learned the trick of unplugging these wires a long time ago when I ran out of fuel and the thing wouldn't start. When the wires are unplugged the ECU sees the temperature as very cold and essentially acts as a choke and increases fuel on startup. Once started you will need to shut down and reconnect the wires.

This is not likely to be your problem but something to try and get it started in less than 30 or 40 pulls.

as long as you arent keeping the sled at a consitent mid range rpm for more than 10 15 seconds at a time your fine.Make sure your recoil is working properly always if the spring is week replace it,if your recoil comes apart the spring can become twisted around your flywheel and stator, thats a 2000 dollar mistake I have already made once.

BOONDOCKER???????????????

Im currently rebuilding my sled...it blew up on me..all it blew the piston rings on the pto side. it has sled junkies 13:1 compression domed heads and a D&D pipe and can.....im not sure if i need i Boondocker..i bought this sled already modded and am now rebuilding it..was wondering if i need boondocker so i dont blow it up again..some one told that it may have blown because running to lean

its a 02 mtn cat 800 efi
thanks
