it only does this intermittenly, but when it happens it will only reach 7000 rpm also, the sled when it is started only idles at 1000 rpm, I have checked reeds, is it the CDI. any and all help is greatly appreciated thank u- also this is my little brothers sled, i'm an A/c guy. thank u in advance

i don't think it's clutching

I feel it's the eletrical or something like that, but thank u

How many miles on the sled? How many miles since the clutches were serviced? Any mods? Does the problem go away right after it happens or do you have to do something like shut the motor off and let it sit for a while before it acts normal again?

If it just comes and goes quickly then I'm betting clutch issue. If it comes, and then requires the motor to cool before it stops then likely electrical.

As for the low idle RPM, the fuel & or air screws could be incorrectly adjusted, or just the low speed throttle screw isn't set right.

I had mine idling at 1800, but had a hanging high idle when coming to a stop (lean) so I started fattening up the idle circuit, and sure enough my normal idle speed dropped, escpecially on warmer days.

I think I'm at 1/2 or 3/4 turn out on the air screws. Not sure on the fuel screws though. Don't know what the stock recommended amounts are either.

idle screw was set fine- does it intermittenly

it has twin jaws, and a modded airbox, but that's it, just strted happening, clutches were serviced before the snow flew

Hey, I was searching threads and found this, my 05 RMK 800 is doing the same thing. It will pull to 7k and then get stuck there. I just took the sled out for my first real test ride today and when playing with it here is what I found.

It does it most often when running below 40mph and sometimes holding wide open still it will come out of it and after being at 7 for say 5 seconds will suddenly open up to 8 and pull like hell.

I also tried letting off the throttle and getting back into it and this tended to get it to pull to 8k after it stalled out at 7k. like the origional post said it does it intermitently. so i was unable to narrow in on any specific thing that causes it, but going slow and then punching it will create the situation about 80% of the time. I tried all differen speeds and throttle positions

As for the sled, (let me start by saying it is new to me an I havn't dug into the clutching yet) But it is an 800 VES with 151" track. I put on an SLP single pipe and can, it has SLP Big horn airbox kit, Flow rites, and the SLP prefilters. I set the jetting and Needles to what SLP reccomended, but am going to try to drop that down. (the sled has great low end power, but when I hit the mid or where the main takes over, the sled falls on it's face power wise, then recovers up top some.)

When reading this thread I didn't really see an answer, so i'm hoping to revive it for some suggestions. I will dig into my clutches tomorrow and check to make sure I have the right helix and see what weights and springs it has.

Thanks in advance for any help if you've run into this before.

well I dug intothe secondary today and the spring is ok, it's a black spring and has a team 58-42-36-ER Helix. Which all seems to line up with stock settings. I also checked the Bellows on the VES and they are still in good condition.

So again any suggestion will help!
