2000 XC Pipe question/need advise

I am finishing a build on a 1999 XC w/ a 2000 700 engine and drivetrain. I found a salvage pipe and when it arrived it is marked for a 2001 700. It fits on the manifold and the can but the mounting braket is taller, I believe for an edge chasis. The pipe appears to be the same diameter, the only difference I can see is the original pipe necked down approximately 3 to 4 inches in front of the exit hole where the 2001 pipe doesn't neck down until it meets up with the exit hole. I can fabricate the bracket and make this fit under the hood. The question is does anyone have experience putting a 2001 pipe on the 2000 engine? Will this pipe work with a 2000 700 non-ves engine. What if the pipe I have is for a VES engine? Is there a way to tell if it is for a VES or non? Is the difference in the length of the back of the pipe going to effect performance or possibly damage the motor? I need the help of an experienced big block guy here. Thanks for any help I can get. Want to get this in the snow here!!
