Is anyone adding 2 extra wheels on the rear axle???

making it a 4 wheels on the rear axle???

thanks matt

Yes.. 2 wheels are what most guys are running..

i am trying to find out if guys are putting on 2 extra wheels to make it Four in the back!

why would you want to do that to an RMK? Wouldn't you lose some manuverability if you did that? If you want, i'll trade you the 3 wheel axle in my Assault SB for your 2 wheel RMK kit... :face-icon-small-coo

the ????????? i have..

What happens when you break one of the two wheels in the back..

Will you be able to drive it out of the sticks!?????????????

Actually that's a pretty good question. All it takes will be one good tail landing and you'd better have one of those tow buddy toboggans! To me it looks like those rear wheels are weaksauce along with the smaller rear axle with lame plastic bushing spacers; one of the areas they tried to shave off too much weight if you ask me. The windows and spacing are the exact same as the MXZ race sleds so I plan to run those wheels and axle on mine (cut down to for two wheels).

Here's a good read: http://www.dootalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=404949&st=0&gopid=3012419&#entry3012419

Have FUN!

Ah, at first I was thinking why the heck would you want to do that but of course if you break down in the back country its all bad. HMMM. Maybe just upgrade to some billets and dont worry about it?

I ordered extra wheels as my sled is always on its axle. I do a lot of river riding with lots of sand berms and sometimes I get rocks and sticks for surprises, that's where 4 wheels come in handy load is no just on two wheels but all four. Also do quite a bit of Fern Burns, as your doing your donuts it's not always smooth so it makes me feel better that the extra wheel on the outside take stress off the track so it dosesn't bend at the edges as bad. The big plus is you break one you still have three and you can move them around so you can finish your ride.

the question is good, all I have is experience with 2 wheel rear axles since 2006. I've yet to have a rear wheel failure in roughly 10000 miles total on 9 different sleds. I've bent rails a few times but no wheel issues. The possibliity always exists to fail a rear wheel but it really can't be side loaded like an outside wheel (team yellow's 2-outside rear wheels of a few years ago).

Running 2 wheel kits with Slydog wheels, I've popped out the bearing retainers on both wheels, probably tail landings, but nothing severe. They changed the design abit, making the bearing wider, but it can and does happen. FWIW, carrying extra wheels doesn't take up must space or weight, if you're concerned. Done it.

Huh?

If you break those wheels I will be very impressed, I did a Finite Element Analysis on AutoDesk Inventor, and the plastic wheels are amazingly strong....up to 10 times stronger than most over-sized aluminum aftermarket bling type wheels, using my testing parameters.

For so long we have been making two wheel kits for three and four wheel OEM configurations, why would you want to "de-invent the wheel" so to speak.

I would think if you break a wheel, you will have broken an axle AND bent rails by then.....

part of the RMK i like is it's ability to roll over in powder, put wheels on the outside and you'll lose some of that. billet wheels tend to break more than plastic if they don't have that rubber ring around them. that rubber ring absorbs a lot. i carry 15mm wrenchs with me anyway and just throw an extra wheel in with me, takes less time then towing a sled back.

One other option... 3 wheels... all inside the rail...

Just not possible on the center ported tracks though.

But if you run the PC track or other non ported track... no problem.

The one wheel tow out..

So a metal fence post under the powder ripped my track, then the hole in the track broke my wheel. Had to leave the sled overnight and go in the next day with a sled to get it out..
I know the chances of this happening are slim, but nonetheless it sucked.
wished I could have had a spare to stick on the outside so I could drive it out!

I guess that Having a spare wheel and longer axle and the related spacers would be a good thing to keep in truck.
