1st time to out west

thats the best time to go march and april just make sure the snow is fresh sometimes its hard as a rock i was lucky last year hitter right on money snow was --cking bad a??

Be careful at that time, went out at that time 3 years ago and came back with 2 totaled sleds. Both with bent bulkheads and tunnels. Alot of rocks and stumps are not covered enough to ride over. Take a cautious ride in meadows and on hills before tearing them up.

Squirrelchaser is right! Just be careful @ the Snowies. Mean Yamaha and I ride out of there almost every weekend. Best snow of the year as far as depth and fluffy is February. Seem to get a huge dump in those first 2 weeks of February. No matter where you choose-rocks galore. Well, except Togwotee. I believe MMC is switching their sled lineup to Yamaha's this year but could be wrong. If you decide to come up in January or earlier be careful for the rocks; not as bad as compared to February. Hope this helps;)

Took first 2 trips out last season from IA - Feb in Albany, April in Centennial -Feb was good, April was AWESOME (snowed all day Sat, foot of fresh on Sun). Both great places to stay - Albany Lodge has everything needed, stayed at the Old Corral in Centennial - Nice digs with great food (no adult beverages but can bring your own), had to trailer up a few miles to ride but well worth it...

Going out there alone, my riding buddies bailed on me this year. I plan to try and ride with others as much as possible, otherwise 100% trail riding for me (Boring but safe). Anyone know if the Snowy Range Ski resort is going to be open this year? Heard from reliable source it may not open this year. Might do some skiing between sled days.

Thanks for all the input.I think we are gonna stay at winter creek cabins and get our sleds from snowy range. They both seem like pretty nice people. And no there will not be any spooning crossfireman.

yeah i know that is a sick thought, what i was trying to say is that red house at albany has enough beds so everyone has their own. you will have a good time and be hooked on going west. you might want to hire a guide or have a local show you around for a day,

I was once like you guys and only remembered when my parent s rhode the ice in IOWA . I live in laramie and ride alot. I hope you guys find a place to stay soon it will fill up fast. Lots of good places in or out of laramie . It's a college town so lots of rest----- and/bars . I first stayed at motel 8 on boswell drive it was and still is 30$ a day. Albany lodge is a good place beca use you can stay ,eat ,drink ,and rent sleds cheap. They have all brands of sleds and a mechanic to fix em in a hurry, or help with fixing your's also . I know they go to laramie for parts alot. One sugestion what ever you do try the prime rib at bear tree in cent. its fri. nite special. Hard to be good meat from iowa but this will have you coming back trip after trip, guarenteed.Laramie has all brands of sled sales and service in town ,but I like the staff and service of frontier cycles [polaris on grand ave.] they stock alot parts and treat tourist like thier old friends . Can't go wrong in this town good people all around. Have fun on the hill and be safe, drink after you ride.:)

I have rented from albany a couple different times (my sled was ....... broke). Never had a problem.

There is also http://www.albanycabins.com/
It was someone's home at one time. It's NICE. They also have a double wide mobile home they rent. I have stayed there. It will sleep 6 -8 no problem, so will the cabin. The trailer is within 5 minutes ride of the food and booze and the cabin is stagger distance.

We are some pretty good blocks of dates available at http://www.albanycabins.com/. :face-icon-small-coo

Attached is a calendar for anyone who is interested. Hopefully the snow will come as it did last year.

Thanks
Kenny
