1994 Arctic cat puma 440?

I Found a 94 puma for basically free. I don't know anything about these sleds but I thought an F/C would be fun for the property, taking my kid for rides and whatnot. It seems to have an 81 440 in it. I guess it ran last year, doesn't have spark now. Ill figure that out. I'm just curious if this is a common engine swap? I have looked around and can't really find anything similar.

Looks like the stock engine to me.
They used that engine for many years. Should be a decent sled for what you're planning to do with it. Looks like it's in really good shape for its age!

Huh, I didn't know they ever came with a 440. Thats pretty cool. Yeah, it came with a really nice track, the seat, plastics and belly pan are all clean.
You're right actually. The Puma didn't come with the 440. The Jag or Panther in the same body did.
I wonder if you've actually got one of those, with a Puma hood? Or if not, swapping the engine from one of those would have been easy and still look stock.

Well I ordered a new coil but the new one is slightly different and won't fit into the bracket that held the old one. I bolted the coil's ground bar to the engine where the old bracket was bolted on. It has great spark now. Is there a problem leaving it like this? The bracket had the old coil suspended in some rubber grommets.

Here is a picture of the old coil in its bracket. The new one is just bolted to the engine. The sled fired right up (finally) but that doesn't seem right. Also, anyone recognize these skis? I need new carbides.

My local deal believes the motor might be out of a 2000 sno pro z440 based on the model number. Looks like the coil that goes with that snowmobile looks more like the one I am looking for. It's a bit confusing, they made a lot of different 440s it looks like.
