1987 Phazer Problems

I recently picked up a 1987 Phazer. Yesterday we had it out it once and a while the sled would lose power and throttle response. We checked the plugs and they were a nice cardboard'ish color. Sled would start and idle nicely just no throttle response until it seemed to cool down. Any possible ideas as to the issue? Thank you in advance. P.S. The outside temperature was around zero celcius.

My 05 mt Vector did that a few times after long fast runs. It was overheating.
The snow blocked the exchangers and the electronics shut it down for about
20 seconds to an idle.

ok here is your problem, been running these phazers forever, if you look at the carbs there is a big plastic nob that turns in and out, where you adjust the idle, there is an electronic timing adjustment built into the bracket wre your idle screw is, adjust that and try it either up or down, and if that still dont work, then that elec piece is bad, you can un plug it from the pig tail coming from the stator, the wires are black/yellow,. so just route them into eachother...the wires from the stator that is, the wires are on the oil resevoir side, this should fix your problem. make sure your fan is running also

i forgot to say, if you end up adjusting that elec thing i talked about it may drop or raise your idle depending on which way you go with it, so after doing do adjust your idle at the cable, back to where it shoult be, which is about 2200-2600 is where mine idle at

Sounds good. On another note what spark plugs do you run in your Phazer(s)? Currently the sled is running NGK R's and I'm just curious if maybe I should be running different spark plugs.

I ran my old Phazer just this last weekend in some pretty deep powder and the under hood temps would get pretty warm with alot of moisture. I'd stop, clear the snow and away we would go again. Steam and high temps just don't work. I used to run with the exhaust side cover off and that would help alot. B9ES or BR9ES NGK plugs. The fella before was talking about the throttle over ride switch, unplug the two wires from the switch and plug the leads to the harness into each other. Hopefully that makes sence.

Is this the correct harness you're talking about? Its on the left side of the oil reservoir when you're facing the front of the sled.

Should I clean the carbs at the same time? If so what is the best way to take them apart for cleaning?

Sorry for the "stupid" questions I'm just unfamiliar with stuff like this. :face-icon-small-fro

you could clean the carbs at the same time, it cant make it any worse. and yes thats the nob i was talking about there are two wires underneath there and one should be male and one female. they are right underneath that nob on the left on your middle pic. if you pulll the carbs you will see what i am talking about. its a spring loaded thing with left hand threads .
