174 Sidewinder build and season ride report.

Yes it’s been a great sled....just messing around currently with Polaris skis and hopefully get out to ride with the qs3 rear shock soon. Think I have 15 or so rides on it ...around 5-600 Miles.

Only issues I’ve had(besides self inflicted ones) Getting a bit of oil in the air box on cold day roll overs, rov must freeze possibly but need to confirm that. Only twice I’ve noticed it. Sled was popping out of gear one cold day a couple times....cycled reverse and seemed to cure it. When below 1/3 tanks doesn’t want to start facing down a steep hill. Guess that’s a known issue. Otherwise those 3 things it’s been fun to ride.

Lots of good info at snow and mud also for the sidewinder ...

Sidewinder has been working great. I installed the QS3 rear shock ....first ride was at around 150psi. They was way to low for my riser weight (230 plus gear and cargo), kept bottoming out. The following day I went to the extreme side and pumped it to max 200 psi. This definitely was more than enough pressure wise. I managed to find a few short steep climbs and the shock worked great keeping the skis planted. In order to make this shock work on a 2017 you will need to order the longer transfer rod from the 2018.

The conditions on the last 2 day ride were spring like...riding around 6500’...definitely need to add more wait to the primary. Sled was hitting the rev limiter and could feel I was out of the power curve.

They are making a seat kit and complete seat for the sidewinder. 299us for kit( cover and foam) and 399us for complete. Can get any Color combo you want and rubber grip panels if you want. Thinking of all black one...don’t like the tall factory seat ..except at the end of the day.

Camoplast 9115m. Get it cut down to fit in your tunnel. Tracks Usa.
910 usdollars.
Thx to the great info on Snowandmud, I cut off the nubs that aren't used for a 3/4lb rotate weight loss. 5lbs net loss.
I also removed the clips with guides to save another 3/4lb.
I removed every second clip also to save 2.5 lbs.
For a big power Yammie I wouldnt remove clips tho. Just the nubs if you are weight picky.

I thought there was something specific built in the rod stiffness of the alpha track that makes the monorail effective. Not sure going to a regular track would be a good idea(to flexible) plus no windows in the middle for clips to keep things aligned. I assume your just going to set back the skid to compensate for the longer track length. This may cause excessive ski pressure. Might be worth just sticking with the stock alpha track and getting Robbie at avid to cut some drivers for you. My thoughts.

Good idea. ive never heard the to flexible thought though. people say it will shred the track but im not sure i believe it. im not going to move the rails. to much ski pressure is bad on an already heavier sled. i am doing this with a kmod rear suspension. the longer shock in the front of the rear skid takes a lot of pressure off the front. I have an 18 that we did that to and it handles better than any sled. yes its heavy. but have you felt the power of a yamaha...... I just cant get that feeling of rush out of me lol.

Start of the new season...Sidewinder worked flawlessly last winter. I ended up changing the track to the more stiff 9115m cut down. I only got one ride on it, but the I could tell it’s stiffer than the 9271m. I added a full cover skid plate, due to a stump incident. ?.

This year doing a revamp on the controls, and colours. Ditching the white all together....those white sidepanels are hard to keep white. Ordered a black set off the 18 153. As for controls I really liked the Munster finger throttle, but made me nervous when people took it for a rip...also my son likes riding it and his hands aren’t quite big enough for it.

As for clutching going to update the secondary rollers, possibly use a dalton black/bronze primary spring.

Also planning on installing the new tether from cat. It uses magnetic conductivity rather then a plunger...which kept freezing last year.

Anyways will keep things updated on changes going forward

You say your going to install the AC magnetic tether, have you installed it yet??

No haven’t got it yet hopefully this week...good deal the adapter harness your making...kind of weird they didn’t send the plug and pigtail at least.
