A few questions on the 17 Ktm 300 xc-w Timbersled build
I ordered a Lectron carb
S3 Head from and the V-force reeds from Slavens

#1Scalvini Pipe, also?? is there any need to add the Scalivini silencer with it? or will my stock silencer perform fine? The pro circuit pipe is $100 cheaper, anybody have any experience with that pipe?

#2 is the Sx CDI box worth the $149??, Can I run that CDI box in the summer????

Thx for your input!!!

Unless you're to final straw point, might as well keep blowing money!

So I'd be a yeah on the CDI, and yes guys run them in the summer. Supposedly it will give you some more revs, which might help with the gaps on your W tranny? And would get a can, if I got a pipe.

I'm running the Scalvini pipe and their shorty can. Looks, runs, and sounds great. Not a deep, rust apart in a season. But it will rust and requires maintenance, wipe it down with WD40. I'm painting mine before I get on the snow this season.

Probably only a small handful of guys that could truly tell you hove each pipe does on the snow. And I'm not one of them.

Going off hearsay, the Pro Circuit supposedly revs higher, so again could help with W gap.

Got your carb heat, and air intake figured out?

The sxcdi doesn't make a lick of difference on a dyno.

Some guys say it feels better. I prefer to measure.

Sx cdi works better with high comp because it advances timing, runs earlier, doesnt rev as high. However you want to put it. It will hit harder, but contrary to popular belief it will not over rev as well as XC cdi.

Timing doesn't restrict the motor to rev, The tighter squish lowers the rpm range which the motor can provide more low and mid torque. SX box with high compression head( tighter squish) adds noticeable gains throughout the powerband and add Lectron and the gains even stronger.

Thxs for all your advice so far, I did order the CDI with it. I DID NOT order the silencer, Going to run stock silencer

NO I have NOT gave the Heated carb much thought yet????? I do have an Engine blanket for it.

Wrapping the pipe??? is this something that NEEDS to be done?

Thx

Timing absolutely does limit revs.

The CDI box is what comes on the SX race bikes and they flat scream. Again the port timing and squish are what alters the Rev of a motor. Many toss on the SX cdi and they will not enhance performance , requires compression and squish change to really work correctly.

in my experience timing is a big factor in over rev. played with timing lots on my kx. when you crank up the timing, the midrange increases alot...and if you go to far it will quit reving. its due to pumping losses, as well as sending alot less heat into the pipe and more into the head.

Thats why a typical timing curve will decrease timing as revs increase. the engine wants less timing to rev.

i wouldnt wrap the pipe. tested this lots as well. also if your pipe isn't stainless or nickel coated it will turn it to junk under the wrap.

Exactly! Cf pipe guard and plated pipe.

Thx for all the info so far!

Homemade Heated Carb questions?????? has anybody made a copper line with a boot over the Lectron ?

Thx

havent done copper but i have used that clear fuel line. if you can get about 6ft wrapped all over the carb, that will do the trick. i ran that for a couple seasons before guys started making the heaters. just get a couple T's and a little valve. try and take the coolant from as close to the head outlet as you can, and T it back in right before the pump. the carb heat valve off the xp sleds works perfect if you can find one or even order one. it would be from like a 08-10ish summit xp. sew up a little fabric bag to throw over the carb. you can get as fancy with the fabric as you want but i wouldnt get too worried about it as long as its not cotton.

Carb collars work much better.. In some cases this does not work.

Lectron,Scalvinie Pipe, Cdi, V-force reeds, Slavens Head 6-12Kft
Thanks for all the advice
