Oh yeah, Kurt T, I've got a 570 piston in that old 520exc. That's a stock pipe that I chopped in half and opened up a bit more for maximum flow. It is still nice and quiet. I am going to put in a set of 54 fork springs soon.
What does the bottom of that ski look like?
I don't have a photo of the bottom of the ski but it's just the stock 10" ski with a sheet of 5/8" HDPE bolted on top. So on hardpack, the stock ski is doing the work. Super easy mod, only took a couple of hours. I'll try to take a couple of photos today.
Looks good, I too have a 570 kit all built with head and cam. I just went with a set of .60 springs for mine. Two weeks of work left and then it's time to ride the winter away!!!!
that thing is a BEAST! What kind of clamps did you use to mount your skis on the tunnel? Interested in how you did that...

Riding in ski boots is slightly awkward. Mostly just for shifting but I've adjusted. The boots are ski touring boots so they have a lot of motion. I'm considering fabricating a custom shift lever toe piece. Snowboard boots are easier to ride in.
The ski rack is nothing special at all. The key is to use genuine Voile ski straps.

That looks insane. Everyone thought I was crazy back in '98 when I showed up with fat skis to shred the pow in southern BC. Now its the norm.

Do not be afraid to go big. This track has been working great for me this season. Granted we have a more supportable snowpack than last year, I go to more odd places and get stuck less. The track demands more power but for me the extra float and traction outweigh the power loss.
Let us know when you are riding in the Logan canyon area. some of us local one skiers will join you.

Have you ridden it yet. How does it climb
I continue to tweak "The Unicorn". I've learned a lot this year after doing some more modifications. Three things have really made this bike awesome for me:
1) I ditched the stock subframe and built a seat that bolts directly to the tunnel frame. This lowered the seat a bunch and put it at a better angle.
2) Added a set of pegs behind the chain case. This puts me more in the center of the bike which I think is crucial for the long track. They are an inch or so lower than the stock pegs.
3) Built a custom bar riser that brought the bars up a bit and back about 8 to 10". This accommodates the rearward riding position.
For me, this was a total game changer. I now stand up almost all of the time in a very comfortable stance. This really distributed the weight much more evenly. So much so that I had to ditch the fat ski because I was getting too much float!
This has worked out so well that I am going to build up my 950 Super Enduro with the same type of set up.
