162 or 153 Track on the 09 M8

I have an awsome deal on a low miles 09 M8 Sno Pro 162. Its 8500 bucks and mostly stock. However, our entire crew runs with the 150's tracked sleds in various brands. Will the 162 Jump and drop ok? Are there any other disadvantages? I know it will climb like a goat but I dont want to risk anything either.

Thanks

162 vs 153

Sounds like you should go with the 153 with the guys you ride with. If you are getting a good enough deal just buy some 153 rails and track and you will be good to go. You will not like the 162 for jumping.

I think you should go with the 153. I had one last year and changed out to the 162. I like to climb and play in the deep pow. If you ride with a bunch of 153 or about sleds you won't be disappointed. The 153 was more fun to ride and boondock.

I have both the 153 and 162 on my M8's and i can not tell the difference except climbing. There the 162 shines. If you are gunna go off drops I would go with the 153 to be more inline with your buddies.

162 is NOT a jumper. Cliff dropping the 162 is a bit easier, but like others have said, go with the 153 you will not be dissapointed.

The 162 will jump....not like the shorter sleds but it will fairly well. Thing is it is so much better than the 153 in all other areas that it is the sled to have. IMO of course. Unless you're really into jumping, the 162 is awesome and feels and turns like a 141". When I first tryed my sled and found out how tight it would turn even though it was a 162", I was amazed. Truely.

Both great sleds. Good luck on your decission.

Hope this helped.

I bought the M8 153 the first year they came out. I am a 153-155 guy, but watching my buddy whoop the $hit out of me with his lightly modded Rev 159 provoked me to slap on a 162. I, personally, did not feel short-changed in the jumping dept. It leveled out perfect every time. I love to jump, but we have such dry snow here for most of the year. It is always a tuff decision deciding on a track. It is a shame that we all cant have a shorty for the jump days and a tractor for the deep days. It did push on the trail, but we know about Cat's trail manners anyway. I would still be riding that sled if my dealer would have got his head out of his A$$ and help me clutch it right.

This is my perdicament. I found a brand new 09 M8 with 70 miles on it for 8000 or so but it has a 162. This sled already has an intake and the slp skis. Its a sno pro so it has the boss seat and the floats all the way around. I really want a 153 so that all the group is in the same class but this sled is in unreal condition? What are the dealers letting an 09 M8 153 snopro go for? I am up for the option of another brand but, lets face it, this is prolly the sled to have in this price range. Light, moderate power, RELIABLE, etc.

More opinions. I use this site like a concensus builder program. Its awesome to have so many people chime in on our "I cant make up my mind, help me out" problems.

Thanks

track length

To compare a 153 to a 162 that's a difference of 9 inches. that is 4.5 inches on the snow. I don't think you could tell the difference between the two while jumping or boondocking. The only difference is a bit more floatation with the 162.

Go with the 153. Seriously! Now if you would just let me know where that 162 is at I'd be happy to pick it up and live with that lenght! LOL

Nice one cannonman! However, FAT CHANCE bro. Its not even posted so its very secret.

If you have jumped or dropped the hell out of a 162 09 M8. Let me know and tell me how it went.

THanks

Like the gentleman said early here in the thread..........it only translates to 4.5 more inches on the snow. I have ridden and jumped both.......no real difference........just that the 162 climbs and floats a bit better in bottomless conditions. Just my .02-cents

162's jump just fine. Really can't tell the difference. If don't buy it and want to, let me know as it is what I am in the market for. Thanks

Like I said in my previous post, I jumped the $hit out of it. One day I was hitting a 75 ft roller and the 162 floated in contour the roller perfectly. I could not believe how balanced this sled was for being so long. The only time I regretted having the big track was in the spring when every hill was just to easy to climb. The 162 Cat floats way better than a Poo 163. The drops are no problem either, trust me, I know cuz Ive seen me do it:D

What would you guys pay for an 09 M8 sno pro 162 with 70 miles? The guy wont go down past 8500. It has an intake, slp skis, and the boss seat. Clutching is dialed.

Also, what will the top speed be. I know you dont want to take a 162 up to 110 but what is realistic on a long flat?

Found new ones for $9000. They would not have the Boss, Ski's or intake, but we all know what add ons are worth when it comes time to sell. The Boss will hold it's value but the other two not so much. The $8000 you talked about earlier would be a good deal, at $8500 I would look to new first. Warranty and all. IMO

I tried to get him to 8K and he was holding at 8500. The thing is he is an older guy who basically set it all up with his years of experience (apparently it required some clutching) and then found out all his buddies were going to quads. Its in brand new shape with brand new mods with only 72 miles so its really tempting.

My 162 didn't like dropping. It is more prone to kicking the back up and causing a cartwheel, but I guess that's on the big drops. Also, the 162 has a lot more stress fractures on the rails.

My brother rides a 153 and puts as many miles on. His rails are still in perfect condition though. A

lso, the 162 is more weight and more track to turn. I would guess it eats 1-2 more hp.

The seat, $4-$500.00, is a definite plus. Skis $2-$300.00. If it is set up by someone who really does know his "stuff" that came be a plus also. We have all seen identical sleds, aside from set up, ie. clutching, perform way different on the hill. 72 miles is pretty attractive. Most demos you buy have many more miles than that on them, and who knows how they were ridden. How much warranty does it have left?

It sounds like a pretty good deal to me.
