16" wide track on 1M

Have searched the forum for info on putting a 16" wide track onto my sled (an '02 MC 800) but haven't been able to find much. Can somebody tell me exactly what's needed to do so (if anything), as well as if you like it or not? Thanks.

I put a camo extreme 16" track on my 05 king cat and loved it I didn't have to do anything other than swap tracks out. I don't own the sled anymore but it was a really nice swap out, the extreme didn't do very well in the really light fluffy snow but in the spring time the track shined like no other.

I just put a 16" track under my 01 Mtn cat. The only real necessary mod is either 7.12" idler wheels or sledjunkys drop brackets. These are needed for the 16" track to clear the TSL link since the 15" track rides in between them with very little clearance.

I've yet to ride the sled on a good powder day so I'm unable to offer info about how well the extra floatation helps. :(

no need for drop brackets i ran with and without drop brackets and never had a problem with the cooling towers rubbing anywhere. Depends on the height of the lugs on the track the taller the lug the more you will need brackets.

I've got a 16 wide on my 03 with the drop brackets. Also the outside corners of the 2.5" lugs are trimmed to clear the cooler; as you can see in the pic.

I am assuming that you will be going with the challenger extreme? If so you will need to change your drivers or just pick up a complete driveshaft out of an 04 King Cat like I did. Your old track (I am assumung) is a 2.52 pitch and the CE is a 3.0 pitch. Hence the need for the driver swap.

I would run the Sledjunkys drop brackets.

I would also recommend installing an anti-stab kit to prevent stabbing due to the larger track windows.

Good luck,
Boone

I do believe you will need the SJ drop brackets. With the coolers running down the middle the taller lugs will be a problem. You may have to drill out your front suspention mount hole and drop the front an inch. The 01 and 02's ran pretty close on clearance for a taller lug, the width is no problem for the tunnel.

The coolers run down the middle on the 01 and 02. You might to want to take that into consideration. The stock track is notched for them so you will definitely need drop brackets otherwise it is going to be a big pain.

whats your opinion on the 2.25 lug will i need to trim for the coolers on a 01 mtn cat im am running 8 in wheels and no drop thanks

The 16" wide track was the best upgrade I ever did for my 04 MC. 162x16x2.5 Challenger Extreme.... fantastic track. I will say this tho....

ANTI STAB KIT ANTI STAB KIT ANTI STAB KIT ANTI STAB KIT ANTI STAB KIT ANTI STAB KIT ANTI STAB KIT ANTI STAB KIT ANTI STAB KIT ANTI STAB KIT ANTI STAB KIT ANTI STAB KIT ANTI STAB KIT

I already trashed my first Challenger Extreme because I rode ONE DAY without the kit in. I had spun out one of the bolts on the rail tips for my kit and couldn't find a replacement.... so naturally I said to myself "Oh I should be fine, just one day without the ANTI-STAB kit." WRONG. $730 mistake on a $35 part. And it is SO SAD to see a perfectly good Challenger Extreme trashed.
