156 to 163

I currently have a 2002 rmk vertical edge that came with a 156 track stock and want to go to a 163... How long of a extension would I need to get and is there any other things I might me missing? Besides a new track ? Thanks

The 156 is kind of an odd ball size. In order to get to a 163 you only need 3.5" I do not know anyone who makes that short of an extention. You could use a Mountain Machines Freedom axel ($170) to get you 2.5", that would get you to a 159' track. The following I do not recomend, that being said it has been done. You could then drill new mounting holes and move the entire skid back another 1" to get the extention you need. This option will change the handling characteristic of the sled, more or less ski pressure and may have an adverse effect. The best option would be to just get new rails from IceAge ($350) and go what ever size you want. Lug height wise Track USA has a 159 that is 2.13" that is the limit you can get with no mods. You can use smaller drivers to get a taller track on there.

There have been a few guys who have gotten away with a 16" track but you have to smooth out a few rivots and maybe a couple of washers on the cross bars. With a 16" track it will be harder to side hill. I know I was reading a thread that the guy was saying he wouldn't do it again. Go with 7 tooth 3" pitch drivers and a new 162" power claw! trust me, This sled has tipped up Ice age rails with 9" wheels I had them anodized and added the Ice age anti stab kit. I got them used, If I was to order new I would go straight rails with 8" wheels. Ice age will cut the rails specifically for thier anti stab kit and def anodizing!

This sled has the old style drivers and it works just fine, my 153 PC has the new updated avid drivers
