155" vs 163" Turbo

I see a lot of people are going back to a 155. A year ago I would've thought it was pointless to do a 155 in a turbo since you have all the power to turn the bigger track, but after how well I got around last year on my stock 163 I am starting to think on most days and most snow condition with a 155 and 220hp I could go about anywhere I wanted and would have more fun on the more playful 155. I am curious what anyone else's thoughts are.

I kinda ride all over Snowy's, Towg, Cooke, Alpine, Rabbit Ears... After having a 300hp TNytro, just a point and shoot sled, I am over that and just want an all around fun mountain sled. I don't jump anything to big, some small drops and jumps. I like doing tight lines in the trees, steep technical side hills, chutes, and playing in the meadows and creek bottoms.

If I am honest with myself I would say 90% of the days I am riding I'll probably be riding on a 1'-1.5' or less of fresh snow, being 10-14 hours away from the mountains it's hard for me to hit it at the perfect conditions.

Where is the point where a guys is too big for a 155? I am 6'1 about 195lbs with no gear.

If I did end up liking the 155 I would probably do the 156x3" and a Kmod next year which would get me around even better.

What's everyone else's opinion on a 155 vs 163 turbo? which do you like better? What do you think would be better for me?

Thanks
Mike

IMO a 155 is plenty of track. Im 215 dry and I have a habit of packing a 40 lbs tool kit everywhere alon with my avy pack, lunch, two one liter water bottles and a dry change of clothes. I figure I'm 250 ready to ride plus my tool kit that lives in the powder keg and I go more places than I should without any trouble. Yeah it takes some work on chest deep days but that's kinda the fun of it IMO. Also we have a lot denser snow up here. It's kinda tough to explain, but when I rode in Montana the first time I was shocked at the lack of resistance on the sled. You should be just fine with a turbo'd 156x3".

I run the the TNytro also..... But I ride with a couple HM pump gas Pro's that are very impressive. From what I've seen & rode from the 155&163 there's not a whole lot of difference. 155 is faster in the tight turns and transitions but the 163 is more impressive in the deeper snow(plus 2ft fresh). I'm 6'0" 245 and need the extra track on the ground but you mite not. I set my sled up for the 10% of days not the 90% as there the ones your still talking about in the middle of summer.... i don't think you can go wrong with either.
That being said how pissed are you going to be when you drive 12hrs to sled and after the day out all you can think about is how you wished ya had a little more track/lug!!

I had a turbo 155 last year, it was fun and went everywhere I wanted to go.... But then I rode a friends 13' 163 pro. I loved it so this year I snowchecked a 163 and turboing it. I hope that it's still playful when I want it to be but truck thru the deep stuff.

That is kinda how my TNytro was set up, more of a just a point and shoot sled... but after being on my Pro last year it really kinda opened my eyes on the fun I was missing out on with everything you can do with the Pro. I built my Nytro to be the biggest baddest sled on the hill and like I said I am kinda over that now and just want to have the most fun I can and still be able to hit some good climbs/chutes
Those 10% days with 2' or more I think I'll prolly have a blast either way, hard to be to mad when you hit good snow, but prolly be wishing I had a 163 for that day.

What did you like better about the 163 if you got where you wanted on the 155?

156x3 or 162x2.5 Either one. if both 2.5 I choose the 162. Next year I think im doing a belt drive and 156x3 on the PRO.

I felt like I was able to climb higher, make tighter steeper lines in the trees because I had more confidence with the sleds ability and it still felt playful. This was a 13' pro 163. With the belt drive it felt nice and light. Honestly only felt the length in a "bad" way was when I went to engage in a slow downhill wrong foot forward sidehill I could feel the extra track not want to pivot out as easy. But I think I would be able to adapt to it quick. I am excited to see how far I can push myself and the sled with the longer track this year! And hope that this new turbo kit runs better than last years!

I think a 156x3 with a good skid would be a riot on a Pro. Best of both worlds still short and playful but all kinds of traction when you want it. Curious to hear what everyone thinks of new X3 this year

If I didn't have 1/2 a house tied up in my sled I'd build a Tpoo! If I was sub 200lbs I'd be looking at 155. If you don't like it that short, when you upgrade your skid you could always go longer/taller track.
What turbo are you going to run? I was SUPER impressed with HM pump gas turbo out of all the ones I've seen. They ran spot on day in & day out. If I had any more money after that I'd go with CMX belt drive cause if you do break drive belt at least you still have brakes:face-icon-small-win
If you don't know this web site for tracks you need to, if its not listed they most likely still have it just have to call them. http://www.sledtrack.com/

I hear ya these things can get spendy. I need to get my 13 Pro and TNytro sold maybe I'll have enough cash from both of those to build this TPro lol...
I actually kinda thought about that too, it would be easy to go longer if I changed the track and skid anyway.

Yeah the HM looks like a solid kit for sure... I had all year last year to think about what kit I was going with. After after having my local dealer do there first turbo on my Nytro and trying to do a turbo on my buddies Etec ourselves and not having much luck with either I decided to go the safe route and have a professional build me one that I know is gonna work. So I am having VOHK build me a BD with all the bells and whistles (GTX, Tial, Intercooler).

Yeah I am a little worried about the belt drive. I am really hoping the changes they made to the belt and pulleys make the difference it needs... Erik even gave me a pretty strong warning that the belt drive might not be the way to go on a turbo. But I opted to go this route anyway hoping that new belts will last.
