155" Challenger 2.5" Without a drop n roll??

I've read all the threads about the drop n roll and adding the 2.5 Challenger tracks. Has anyone installed the 2.5 track without the drop n roll? I understand that the clearence is very tight even with the stock track (2.4") but honestly, as well as the stock track seems to do in the deep snow, is there really any problem with snow evacuation?

I was hoping I could install the track now and do the drop n roll this summer when I have the time. I thought about maybe just buying the 2.25" track but if plans work out, a BDPGT will be installed this summer and the 2.25" wouldn't really be worth it.

The stock 09 155" dragon track works very well in deep snow but is a death ride for my wife in all other conditions and predicaments. Watching her slide backwards on groomed trails with her screaming isn't any fun.

Has anyone done the F-bomb track mod to the 09 tracks? Are the 08 and 09 Dragon tracks different? I've heard they are???

This is a litle off topic, but should help you. I put a 2.5 camox under my edge rmk this year. I used 7th drivers to gain the clearance I need to get it in there siince they only came with a 2" track. I did no drop and roll. I only have about 1/4" of clearance on the roof, and in front of the track. I LOVE IT! Sure, I may gain even more with a d&r, but it was still a VERY worthwhile mod. I would not hesitate to put one on now if I were in your shoes, and do the d&r next summer. You may even secide you don't need to do it then. With yours, your can even run the stock drivers, I had no choice, I had to change since the camox does not come in a 2.52 pitch.

Diamond..I did kurt's(fastrax motorsports) drop and roll when I did my 08 adding the camo-x 2.5 163 with 2.86 pitch...the 08 dragon track and the 09 rmk tracks are all 2 ply..the 09 dragon track is 1 ply....I have heard of several guys installing the camo x 2.5 track without doing the drop and roll...it works but is very tight on clearence compared to a drop and rolled tunnel..I have 1 1/16 in cleareance at the tightest point(frt of tunnel coolers) with the rest of the tunnel frt being over 1 1/2 in. clearence....

F-bombs track mods takes care of that spinning out going up hill and hitting an icy spot. Have done the mod ona single ply 09 dragon, for about 300 mi now and have hit quit a few stumps and not ripped off any paddles......yet. Had an 07 and 08 dragon with those soft tipped lugs, and spun out in quite a few "hairy" places that make you pucker up. This mod will save wrecking a sled, IMO.

I think F-bomb's track mod is a great upgrade to a otherwise lackluster track (only works well in the deep). But, it is not as good as going to a camo extreme. If you don't have the money, trimming the 5.1 track and screwing it does wonders. But I think the camo extreme is worth the money.

I have the camo extreme on my D8 and it does clear. It is tight and I often wonder (usually when I'm stuck) if a drop and roll kit would help. I think that the fastrax kit will be my summer project.

just curious bugito, when you changed tracks without the drop and roll...did you notice a difference in track speed?mine seems to pull as much if not more then it did stock..(although besides the camo-x and the drop and roll the only change on mine from last season is the 10 update...)..I know the track makes a big difference on its own..but I do think curts kit helps as well.....

2.5 como extreme

I put a 162 X 2.5 under my 09 TD800 3 inch pitch with 7 tooth Avid drivers, works great just have to regear to keep track speed.Clearance is about the same as stock.

Dave,

I think we covered it on the ride to the airport from Puyallup...

IMO, for 155 Polaris owners, RUN the 156" X 2.5 Camo extreme... with 7 tooth drivers. You will probably have to move the skid back 3/4 of an inch which is pretty common in this chassis... This will give you better clearance than stock... and get you the track you want.

The 08 Dragon track and the 2009 track are different, the 2009 is a single ply, 2008 is a 2 ply. The 2008 has a mixed duromoter rubber composition, and I believe the 2009 Dragon has a single durometer compound. The 2009 NON-Dragon tracks are the same as the 2008.

My 2 cents. Good luck in your choice my friend.

Did a 2.5 camo extreme swap in my 07 700 155 no drop and roll only removed the front cooler .
Geared down , clutched spot on , slp piped , and vented .

All I hear is" thats a 700" ?:D

Yes it works awsome , if a drop and roll even helped more even better...

Bye bye 800's .

Would like to see some side by side comparison with d&r vs non d&r .

I am questioning if needed at all.

clearance issues are also more apparent in coastal...or spring, high moisture content, snow... harder to "pump" through the tunnel and more parasitic drag..

Champagne pow... not such a big deal.

i rode with a guy most of the year "lastyear" with a xp timbersled slp setup he thought i had an 800 the whole year, i dont have a drop and roll it works great way better then stock track but if you got the cash to do the drop and roll it will only make it that much better, i hope to have my chaincase very soon

I put one on mine and I did not do a drop and roll, probably doesn't have the clearance everyone wants but it works great with no issues

I installed the Extreme on my assault and have had nothing but improvements, maybe do d&r over the summer, there is nothing to stop you from putting the track in, then based on your own experiences and performance expectation make the decision on the d&r.

Does Avid make 7t drivers for the new driveshaft? Robbie told me they don't. On top of that he said that with that small of a driver, the nubs on the inside of the track would rub the skid. Any insight from you guys?

I run the 2.5 camo on my 07 600 with 7 tooth drivers, no drop and roll. works excellent, no rubbing, and a huge gain in performance. run it without the drop and roll first, you won't regret it.

I could only come up with 8th drivers for my 2006 -700 and will only have between 1/4" to 1/2" clearance - think this will fly for now!!

Avid does NOT make 7tooth drivers for the 2.86 pitch tracks... but that is why I recommended the 156" track... It is a 3" pitch track... this would allow you to run the...

7 tooth x 3" pitch drivers for the Polaris tubular driveshaft which Avid DOES make.

The 7 tooth drivers will give a small increase in clearance without going to a D&R.

Good luck!

A few thoughts on the proposal.

I'll ask this first...
Why do you want the track now, and wait on the D&R?
If it's time, I have the tools and I'll help you, and I think it can be done in a long day, especially if you have help.
If it's $$, the FTX kit is $340, and the Avids are about $250 for the pair. It's an extra $100. Plus, if you go with the Avids, an anti-stab kit would be a good idea. ($100) Granted, it's ideal to do them both at the same time, since you have everything all apart. I have no idea if there is a cost difference between the track pitches....

MH has clearly done the homework, and I fully believe he has a solution that will work. I chose to do what I did, and go a different route for two reasons, 1) I wanted to maintain the same driver dia. as stock, and 2) for some reason I put a value on keeping with the stock track pitch.

I like the idea of the largest diameter driver as possible, for the same reason that we put larger dia. wheels on the back: less drag. So, that was big for me. The pitch was MUCH less of a consideration.

I haven't had a chance to really RIDE my sled (arm surgery) since I did my series of mods. However, my wife has taken it out this past weekend, and others that went with her commented on how well it hooked up. (compared to other Dragons)

Best wishes with your choice!
