154x2.5 doo track vs. 154x2.5 CE

Looking to upgrade the track on my 151 rev to a 154x2.5" and I'm wondering wich track to spend the money on. Looking at either a 154x2.5 challenger extreme or a 154x2.5 doo track...which one is a better option?

I personally liked the 2.5 flex edge track better and I have had them both on the same sled for comparison.

Weird to hear that... IMO the 2.5CE is much less stiff after break in, my CE didn't trench NEARLY like my FE does.

I would say the CE is better in soft & the FE is better when there's a base inder the snow a bit, where it can dog down & grab. Not a "bad" track, but stiffer than I'd prefer.

Edit... depends if you mean the old CE or the new... IMO the old CE & the flex edge are very similar.

Get the old CE (take off's are ez to find) and break the rods--best of both worlds and cheap. 2 seasons on my (04 REV151 x 2") 154 x 2.5 broken rod flex and Gripper skis--totally different sled

Have you run the old & new back to back? There is a reason they're easy to find, the old one was 8 lbs heavier, and it trenched pretty badly.

I know a LOT of people who got rid of them to go to the powerclaw, even the 2.25 one.

One thing to consider, the 3" PC is now out, and people will be getting rid of 2.6 PC's to buy them... that is a phenomenal track, much better IMO than our doo track. (and you can get them in a 153)

These are interesting track stats that are almost impossible to discover without a handy shop to field test both tacks on a specific sled especially if the sled as been clutch modified.

I have not compared the tracks back to back but if the OPs current 151 is on an early REV like mine he will really improve his sled's performance with whatever track he gets provided he gets the proper 2.86 drivers an offset axle and 8" big wheels.

I'm not sure of the age of my takeoff track but it does not appear to be overly stiff, has excellent down hill braking and only trenches due to rider incompetence. According to my dealer the 154x16x2.5 weighed 3lbs less than the original 04 REV 151x16x2.

I would question installing a 3" on an old REV which can be a heavy steering beast and, depending on altitude, might not have the ponies to make the track perform. BUT, with enough cash and spare time almost anything is possible.:face-icon-small-hap

Sled currently has a 151x2.25 off a 06. Sled is an 07 xrs with a Trygstad 872 and the clutching is a work in progress. Just picked up a new timbersled for it with custom length iceage rails for the 154 for next season. Floatation i feel is adequate just looking for more bite in the deep

....or 'byeatts' on SW :face-icon-small-hap

SPI extended CC on that sled.

Wish I could find one of those SPI extended chaincases....I've seen a couple cut and welded Doo ones but they didn't look the best. I still don't know if I would go all the to a 3" though

The 2.5 CE is a very good all around track :face-icon-small-win

I have tried all tracks in this thread except the PC 2.6/3"

the FE is for heavier snow (stiffer)...
the newer CE is for lighter snow (softer)...
the 3" needs a chain case mod
the 2.5s work well especially after break in...need lugs to fold back a touch to get optimum performance
gearing and clutching will need a little attention...BJ

FYI- SHR can help with all aspects.

after going 3" i would never go back to a shorter lug.

now that 3" is stock im waiting for camo to release a 3.5" or 4" lug track, theres plenty of room with my VEI D&R.

Did you do the VEI D&R on a rev? If so how bad of a job was it and how does perform? I've read the drivers sit too low and leaves the drivers more susceptible to damage.

yes, did it to my 04, wasnt that bad took me a weekend with no instructions. I used 7tooth 3.0P avids and can tell you that they are no lower than the big 10tooth 2.52P stock drivers.

I am very impressed with how the sled preformed last year with the CE156"-16"X3". so impressed i decided to put about 5K more into that sled for this season.

you could call the one guy that does this kinda stuff for a living...had the second SPI billet chain case ever built (2007) and could actually HELP vs getting 10 different opinions...BJ:face-icon-small-win
