153" or longer track sled in a short bed pickup?

159 in my short box 03 sierra ex-cab....works fine, 2 straps from the rear d-rings to the sled's rear bumper and done

Agreed with closing the tailgate....good way to look like a hillbilly LOL

i have seen some dumb looking sleds jambed into some small trucks with the tailgates closed, and it doesnt make any sense, i have a 78 chevy shortbox and a 144 and its not bad, i just drive into the front and parking brakes and run a ratchet strap from notches in the skid rails to the bumperof the truck, one on each side, i have gone on some good adventures doing that and its fine. enough weight is on the bed, not the tailgate so its fine.

i haul a 151 in my short bed and it has a tool box in it. if ur worried about the sled not having enough rear support, slip a 2"x10"x8' under the track to that it supports the weight of the sled hanging out. i have a unit made from square tube that goes in the hitch and comes up with a platform, level with the tailgate. it works great and is rock solid. really helps with that tool box taking up space

I put my 153' in the back of my 01 Ford Supercrew, it sure looks stupid, but I just strap the front end down good and it works fine. I wouldn't tie the back bumper down and compress the rear shock, I've seen shocks blow seals after hitting big bumps. I always just run one through the skid.

Yes I agree I wouldn't compress the rear shock, I simply tie the rear bumper pulling towards the front and just "Snug" it up so the sled can't move back, it doesn't need to be that tight.

I went from AK to Ca with a 144 in my short bed, drove it to the mountains every weekend that way too (5 hours each way) with no problems, the best part of not using a trailer is you don't pay double at toll booths :D

Put my 162 M1000 in my 03' short bed crew cab duramax all last year. Just put it inreverse to back it out. Worked great.

Now my question... how do you tie down the sled? Ratchet straps? What do you attach to? Tie down the back?

I always put tie downs through the gap between the tailgate and the box and attach to the frame or receiver and to the rails or upper H-arm shaft....

How many of you haul a 153" or longer tracked sled in a short bed full size pickup?

Right now I only need to haul one sled so I'm wondering if I can get by hauling it in a short bed. I know it'll stick out a bit but how bad does it look? Any pics?

Thanks,

Tim

I do it all the time, I run a ratchet strap through the front spindles to the loops in the front of the bed and run another ratchet strap over the track on the rear to both loops in the rear part of the bed. No problems here. :D

I carry a 159" Summit in the back of my Tundra - 6' bed. A piece of plywood on the bottom and another up front to protect the front of the bed. Strap it down front and rear. Sticks out about
30".
