153" or longer track sled in a short bed pickup?

How many of you haul a 153" or longer tracked sled in a short bed full size pickup?

Right now I only need to haul one sled so I'm wondering if I can get by hauling it in a short bed. I know it'll stick out a bit but how bad does it look? Any pics?

Thanks,

Tim

Who cares what it looks like. It works just fine. All the weight is in the front so it doesn't really matter how far it sticks out the back. If I remember right a 121 is pretty much flush with the end of the tail gate (when it is down) on my silverado short box so you'r looking at 32"+ sticking out.

I've reen a summit 151 in an old ranger before.

Maybe I should've clarified what I meant by "bad." I really don't give a rat's azz what it looks like, I just wasn't sure if it looked dangerous sticking out.

Thanks for the info guys. That frees up my truck search to include some short beds now.

I have hauled my 03 edge with a 159 in the back of my 00 GMC, and it has a tool box in the front, so I lost 2 feet of bed space. Most of the track was in the air. Only the front of the track hit the tailgate. Just strap it in good, and you'll be fine. Also tie a red flag on the bumper to cover the DOT laws.

I have a pic of my 162 in a short bed GMC, i'll figure out how to resize it and then post it. It's pretty funny lookin since we put it on top of the tailgate too.

No its not dangerous, because what is sticking out is fairly light and majority of the weight is in the box. Like anything though make sure its tied down good.

I roll my 153" track in short bed Dodge 1500, the bed is 6'3 I think. No worries, little hang is all. Tie it down good and forget it. Sorry no pics, been using the trailer for the only two times I've gone out this year.

I've hauled a 151 in my 6.5, minus about 12" up front due to a roll-top aluminum cover.

The only thing that concerned me was the extra weight on the edge of the tailgate which made the gate bow downward slightly, but it did spring back when empty.

I hooked tie downs to the top run of the track just ahead of the rear wheels and then hooked to the rear tie points in the bed. Next time I will probably use another strap to go over the track, hooking on both sides of the truck bed to hold it down just in case I end up bouncing around off-road after hitting black ice or something.

Now my question... how do you tie down the sled? Ratchet straps? What do you attach to? Tie down the back?

Ratchet strap the rear bumper to the tie down hooks in the rear of the box. Hauled my 151" on the weekend in my dodge shortbox, it doesn't stick out bad at all, only issue is with my toolbox in and driving it in with a 6' ramp, you don't have much room for error between getting in and hitting the toolbox.

On a sidenote, make sure you don't hit the front of the box if your driving it in! I tapped the front of my dads box loading his sled and it dinted his box, pretty sad how flimsy they are now...

If you own a toyota you better take off your tailgate, because it's only made to handle 200lbs! Don't want to crumple a tailgate doing what it's made for :p

Do it all the time in my super duty with the short box 6-3/4 length. I have the 155 but last couple years I had the 159 and didn't think anything of it.

You are allowed 4' overhang without lights or anything like that. You will be just fine.

Whatever you do don't be the azzhats that close the tail gate and let the azz end of the sled stick way up in the air. I just laugh at those dudes, they go through all the trouble to lift something that high just to shut the tailgate. Unreal.

seen a 154 xp go in to the back of a new tundra which had a 4 foot bed or something it was insanly short kinda funny lookin but it worked... sled on the tail gate is for hookin up trailers for those of us that dont wanna have to bend over or duck under stuff. so i guess that makes u an azzhat for not thinkin logically
