144" to 151" Worth It?

Well it seems pretty clear at this point that most agree that it would be worth it. My local dealer doesn't think so. He is a 144" fanatic. He doesn't believe in gear changes either though. Thats why I needed to ask about this out here on the forum!

I suppose going from the 144"x2" to the 151"x2.4" would need a small gearing change, right? I don't care about top speed. This sled never goes over 45 mph and that is for a very short distance.

My dealer says that if I gear down from the stock gearing I'll just spin myself a trench I will have to dig out of. Isn't there some kind of formula for determining the proper gearing for a specific track length and lug height with a rider of a certain weight on it?

A 151"x15"x2.4" is like $775. Ouch!

I have a '99 rmk 700 with a 136" track as my backup sled, what's the general cost of upgrading to a 144, or 151" track?

I went 136x1.75 to 151x2 with some 8" wheels on my 98 RMK 600. Turns the sled into a whole different creature, even with stock gearing and no clutching adjustments. With 7" risers and the new track this sled can hang most places on the mountain and made it much more fun to ride.

$330 for 151x2 camo track from tracksusa.com
$90 for the tunnel extension tracksusa.com
$90 8" big wheel extension ccmachines.com
$160 8" idler wheels hiperf.com

Then sell your 136 on ebay for $200 and you're looking at ~$450 for the upgrade. or keep your stock wheels and stay away from the wheel kit and save another $100. Its a nice upgrade you will be happy with a longer track if you ride deep snow.

I have a 144. I looked at going 151 and tried to find a track on the swapmeet for months, they're hard to find and if you do, they will cost you. Go 159 and check out tracksusa. They have brand new series IV 159x15x2.125 on sale for 430. I got my new 159 track, rail extensions, tax and shipping for $550
