sucks, love the sled, gotta get more miles on a motor...

i didnt touch the sled hoping polaris might have tinkered with it for 14 and fixed there known issues. it is literally set exactly as i got it from polaris.

clutch side went. sled was still running on one cylinder till i hit the kill switch. hoped for a fouled spark plug, wasnt that lucky!

so has anyone come up with any definitive results on why these things are popping pistons? and what can i do thats not pocket wrenching/warranty voiding to gain more miles!

thanks again i love the sled, was pull and go for 500 miles!!! :(

Is your oil tank venting? What was your oil to fuel ratio?
Wasn't a injector failure was it?

Not sure

Here is a pic of the spark plug didnt look in the cylinder its at an awesome dealer getting taken care of just wondering what people are doing that get more miles then 500! :)

2400 miles on my 2012 pro RMK 800, no issues with it. Um, i turned the oil pump up 2.5 turns, i run 87 octane with 10 percent ethanol, and beat the crap out of it.

I have an 11' with 1600 miles, a 13' with 1100 miles and a 14' 600 with 2300 miles. bone stock on the engines. never a problem. stinks you had a problem.

I just seized the mag. Side piston on my 11 with 1023 miles on it. Not sure why, kinda leaning towards a cold seize. I was only .7 miles into the ride thankfully.

What was the cause?
Not sure. Sled has a can and that's it, it dropped a cylinder the day before, he took the plug out and cleaned it. After that it ran good the rest of that day and part of the next day. Then dropped the cylinder again. Its at the shop now for warranty.

buy another brand without know motor problems...just hope your dealer takes care of you and you don't have 4 weeks on a back order.:brokenheart::noidea:

Can someone explain to me what the symptoms would be if an injector failed? Would an injector failure cause damage to a piston and if so what would one likely see as far as damage goes?

Crank the oiler up 35ish:1 and vent your tank. I know of a 14 with over 2000 hard miles that just had a really good leak down test that will probably get another 2000 miles this year (if it holds together) before a top end in the offseason following that.
And no problems with my 13 doing that.

Do you let your sled warm up to around 100 deg? We had a 14 in last week that had 4 corner scoring. Cold seizure. It was not warranted. I still see people start sled and take off without warmup.
Only other problem we have been seeing is with turbo installs. People not bleeding the turbo oil line and starving the crank bearings.

I've seen one that was a injector failure. Was a complete pto side meltdown. Spark plugs we're white and covered in aluminum. Top of piston was trashed and the cylinder wall was too.

More info please ak. First ride of the year or 500 miles into the year?

It's good to see a post about pistons again lol. I think many were starting to worry it was over.

I was lazy this summer and made an expensive mistake and didn't take any steps for storage short of wiring up the oil pump to full. When I fired it up it was idling low with everything checking good. Tried Techron and didn`t change a thing.
Dang. Bought and installed injectors and everything was good again. Don`t know if I would have had problem down the road but now I have some to rebuild or clean for 2017 (if I can). Kinda miss carbs sometimes lol.

Don`t really think we need to have another discussion on oil consumption, or whether a 2 stroke needs it, or how much your sled uses, or whether all Pro`s are equal here either but I was reading at HCS this holiday and had a good chuckle.
There are Axys owners really pissed because there sleds are using too much oil lol. Unacceptable lol.

Which dealer is it? When I bought my 14 Hatchers told me they haven't had a single failure (liars), but ERPAC told me that the chassis is fantastic, but they have had engine issues, though much less with the 14 than earlier models. I bought it from ERPAC because they were honest and gave me a better deal.

I'm going to turn the oiler up 2.5 turns and have a vented cap. I hope it's reliable for at least 2 seasons, but then I'll just get a mtntk kit.
