13 eco mpg

Hi guys I just ordered a 13 FX4 SCrew Ecoboost with 5 1/2 foot box. It is not a max tow and it has 3:55 gears. My question is does anybody real mpg average pulling a 22 foot 4 place open trailer. I'm prob never gonna get a enclosed cuz I hate how they pull in the wind and love my Aluma open. I know its not gonna be the greatest I'm just curious. Thanks guys

I pulled a 27 ft Haulmark enclosed with my 11 with 3.73s today.

10.5 MPG

I would say 12-13 towing an aluminum 4 place open.

Mine pulls a 4 place enclosed with ease. You will be blown away pulling your Aluma.

You will like the power and the torque of that sucker. This motor pulls hard at 2000-3000 rpm.

I had a 3/4 Dodge Hemi before this and I liked that motor. The Eco is now the best gas motor I've driven. The harder you work it the more you'll like it.

The best gas mileage driving empty that I've ever gotten in 35 years of driving full size pick-ups.

Thanks for the input. I would be very pleased with the motor/truck If I can pull 12. The smooth ride in a 1/2 ton with the power of the Eco should make for a nice tow rig

I have a 13 and the best I have seen is 17mpg at 60 mph. Overall lifetime average is 13.2 mpg. I have about 5k miles. If you use the truck it doesn't get the kind of milage promised. No load at 60 mph it does well. But who does that! The truck does have great power.

What gear ratio do you have? From what I've heard the 3:55 does a lot better than the 3:73 on highway mpg obviously

Just drove home from dealership last night 28 miles mostly country driving and average mpg was 17.5 when got home and I reset it when I left and truck now has 100 total miles

I've got a 2011 screw eco with just over 20000 mi on it now. Lifetime average is 17 mpg. I set my cruise for 5 mph over speed limit consistently and drive mostly highway miles. In winter I get 16 to 17 mpg, while summer is around 19 mpg. I've been told its due to winter blend fuels? Not sure if that is BS or not... Towed a loade 2 place from IA to WY, 1500 round trip and got 10.5 mpg.

As others have said, the power and towing ability of the eco is awesome. Beats the hell out of my 2007 5.3 crew chevy LTZ I had. That thing had to be to the floor while the eco just cruises.

Took a 2012 eco out west this winter pulling a 3 place enclosed trailer with one sled in the box, and we averaged from 10-12 mpg going 75. Too say the least I was very impressed with the truck. So much that I now have a 2013 FX4 eco.

Yeah the power is very impressive and the comfort is awesome as well. I guess I don't really care what mpg is if it pulls the trailer with ease, which sounds like I will have no problem.

The torque the ecoboost generates will blow your mind. It will pull mountain summits while towing my open trailer at 75 MPH and 1,800 RPM's and won't have to search for a lower gear. Your towing MPG will be greatly influenced by how fast you want to get there. Towing your four place open trailer at 65 you'll likely see 13 MPG at 80 you'll likely see 10-11 MPG. Empty at 70 MPH you'll see 18 MPG at 80 you'll see 14 MPG.

Jeff ... Just move out here and u won't be worried about fuel economy at all !

I know I know. If it were only that easy. Hire me and I would be on my way, the wife is on board with it

I've intentionally denied myself the opportunity to drive an EcoBoost. I have a '12 Screw with the 5.0 and it tows quite well. It doesn't look like I am getting the same towing mileage as the EB, but that's fine.

As others have already stated, towing power is not a concern. I imagine an open trailer will get you decent mileage. I have a 23 foot enclosed with a 7 1/2 roof. This winter I put on 3000 miles towing and got a low of 9 MPG towing at 75 mph and a high of 13 MPG when I had to drive 250 miles through the snow at 40-45 mph. At normal high way speeds I averaged 10-11 MPG.

I have the Max Trailer Towing package on my 2011.

Thanks for posting this. I am floored by how early on the grid th EB hit peak torque and stays there all though 5000 rpm. I was really fighting myself on which engine to get but am glad I got the EB.

I think you will be more than happy with your decision. I just bought a 13' Platinum with the EB and 3.55's and pulled my enclosed just around home so far and I'm very impressed at how well it holds speed without shifting. I previously had an 03' duramax and an 04' 8.1 Yukon and I would say this pulls very similar to the Duramax and gets better mileage empty to boot. Have you pulled an enclosed before? We run a 7' x 27' inline with a 6' interior and its the best pulling trailer I have ever had. Very little sway in even high side winds and the extra room for gear and tools in the trailer is great especially with the smaller 5.5 box.

I have pulled a few enclosed trailers, but they were all the tall and wide ones with the axles underneath. I would love to try one of the low in line 4 place trailers like you are talking about. I'm sure they would change my mind.

What do you guys have in trans temp while pulling?

I drive an 12 eco for work. Average mpg is 17 or so. Pulling a 8 ft 1000 lbs trailer enclosed into wind mpg 8 to 9. Trans temp is 195 empty, this is in winter with temp in the 20's. Never had pulled much weight just wondering if the trans temp jumps to 250 while pulling 5000 or so in weight. My 01 chevy 6.0 will run 150 in trans temp pulling 5000 enclosed 7 wide 21 ft. while driving 73 with temps in the 20's.

I am guessing that this truck does not have the tow package.
