12v plug for gps

Something I've done to solve my GPS power issues:

For a sled that doesn't have a battery, the power will only be provided when the motor is running. Turn off the sled, and the GPS dies (alkaline batteries suck in the cold, and won't last me a full day with this setup). So, what I've done is taken a battery from an R/C car and fabbed a harness to it that I can use the aux power port on my GPS just like it's plugging into the sled. Now, I have power regardless of sled status, and I store the battery under the hood so it stays warm and lasts many days without recharging. Plus, an added benefit, in the event I have to leave my sled I will still have a solid power source for my GPS as I can take the battery pack with me (it's about half the size of a deck of cards and weighs very little).

Works great for me....

A third place you can get power, if you want AC, is right below the top steering post mount. There is a plug there, similar to the one in front of the primary clutch, it is labeled 'A/C power'.

Pro Climb comes stock with a 12 v receptacle in the dash................just saying.................:face-icon-small-ton

You obviously lost your way..... I guess it makes you Cat guys feel good to have something, even it's a very small thing to be happy about, given the Pro Climb problems. :face-icon-small-win

DO NOT draw more than the 2 amps the fuse allows for... The DC side of the voltage supply without the battery cannot be pushed farther without taxing the system.

It's great that there is now a DC supply on the system (though 2009 600 RMK's had it too)....good clean power to charge with.

For the batteries... I've found some of the helmet light batteries to be pretty cool... like those from Trail Tech and Cyclops.

My Rino lays flat on my dash so I can see it when standing, and runs for 3 days on a single charge if not constantly transmitting with the radio. No need to charge on the sled.

power for heated shield

i use a helmet with the heated windshield and was trying to install the wiring on it tonight. not sure what amperage these use, but the wiring is extremely small. i found the plug in the bundle above the steering post marked ac power, but nothing else. i will look for that other plug tomorrow. this thread has been helpful, figured i would have to start a new one:face-icon-small-ton

Here's a pic of my power plug, I have e-start so it's connected to the battery. In the pic the gps mount isn't installed yet but I mounted it where the 3 felt pen marks on the left side are. I used the garmin stick on dash mount and has held on for 1,100kms and still holding strong.

ps. Heading out tomorrow to Revy and fresh powder.:face-icon-small-hap

plug

tlm700, thanks for the tip! i called the local napa store and gave them the ballcamp # 755-1598......for $3 they delivered it to my shop. plugs right in. i will be riding tomorrow and testing it out with the heated shield. hope the 2 amp fuse is enuff. also, it is a double ended plug that you cut into 2 pieces, so you really get plugs for 2 sleds:face-icon-small-win

Ok so I found two plugs. I found the one behind the headlight and then one in that pouch my the stearing post. Which one should I use for my GPS and which one is the one that draws power from the fuse?

This is the one by the steering post. The other one is liike the NAPA plug others have posted.

So I have found the flat two wire 12 volt supply under my hood. Now Im trying to track down the "flat two wire/rca adapter" Not go with a cigarette/ charger style type jack. I have a polaris heated visor helmet that came with this adapter, so I know polaris has it. I just can not find anyone with polaris to find a part number to order another.... Radio shack looks crosseyed at me when I ask for it, so they dont carry it. Maybe ski doo or arctic cat...???...
Can anyone tell me where I can find this???
Thanks
