12 rmk oil consumption

How much oil are your sleds using and what do u think about richening up the oil pump? Has anyone done this or did you just leave it at stock?

My 2013 hit 200 miles and it wasn't even to the "fill" line. I would leave it alone so as not to lean it out more??

after reading about xm oil consumption on doo forum,i find it hard to believe that they can easily pass epa standards while my 13 pro uses 1.5 quarts of oil in 230 miles giving my future exploder very little oil.

Every single Pro 800 owner should be turning up their pumps. Lots of threads covering this. Takes less than an hour to do it. Your motor will last longer and the increased price of oil consumption pales in comparison to a shortblock.

Don't know what my oil consumption was when I bought the sled but it only had 18 mi on it and an almost empty oil and gas tank.
I turned the pump up 3 turns before ever riding it. 1st ride used approx 43:1 haven't checked again but looking at gas added and oil level it's around 40:1.
Also been adding about an ounce per gallon to the tank.
All of my engines have lived long lives at 35 to 40:1. Hoping for the same here.

What is the stock ratio? 70:1??

I always dump 1 ounce per gallon in the tank on my dragon, and on my buddy's pro its about 1.25 ounce per gallon

Checked my stock 13 Pro and it is at 48:1. Have not messed with the oil pump adjustment at all. I think it varies quite a bit depending on how you ride.

First thing, the only way to know what ratio you have is to measure fuel and oil consumption after each ride.
There are multiple threads on this, but not one specific on how to... I found bits and pieces from a few threads and made my own conclusion. Best thrd might be this one http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=315181&highlight=oil+pump

First thing I noticed on my 13 was that it used very little oil. Found it running consistant 58/1...... I now have it adjusted to about 42/1.
It is very easy to make the adjustment, it's just a pain to get access. You will find many references on how many turns on the screw. I just looked at the notch alignment to the pump and adjusted accordingly.

On another note, I have friends that have never touched their 12's and machines still running fine. They do say that oil consumption is light, but assume that since they're built like that, it's better not to fool with it. I'd bet that 90% of owners wouldn't even think about adjusting the pump.

So what do you do?? I've heard stories for both sides. But since it's only oil, I figured it can't hurt to add more.

Well if thats the case couldnt i just add oil to the gas tank everyfill up to ensure its getting enough?

Not necessarily on a port injected engine.. You're bringing in only air to the crank case and injecting the oil into the case separetely. The oil going through the fuel injectors is basically just along for the ride when it is injected into the transfer ports along with the fuel during the intake stroke. You are still compressing the air/fuel/oil so their is some lubrication benefits, but you're also robbing your engine of power by adding less fuel for the amount of air availabe and leaning out your engine a bit. This is also the reason port injected engines are able to run ~80:1 SOMEWHAT reliably..

The oil pump has been turned up since day 1 on my 2011 Pro-rmk. I replaced the pistons at 2000 miles as preventative maintenance and the stock pistons and monoblock were in very good condition and the sled has had a hard life. I am pretty good about maintenance and have never had a single issue mechanically or with electronics and have ~3k miles on the sled (clutches, a-arms, bumpers, hoods, side-panels, running boards are another story..) I guess I'm one of the lucky ones!

My 2013 has been using about 45:1. Not to concerning imo. Gotta keep check usage to see if it stays similar.

When you buy a new KTM they will tell you to mix it at 60:1 I believe. Not sure if that has any bearing on this argument.

3 turns

I turned mine up 3 full turns, and on average after about 6 tanks of fuel its running about 38-41:1. Im gonna keep an eye on it but that seems about right. No issues with running or fouling plugs so far, the plugs look good. I do notice quite a difference in oil consumption if we have a "hard" ride with lots of powder/boondockin vs. a light trail ride.....as others have mentioned, i would not be running at stock settings....

Well me and a buddy did 2 turns on our sleds, we will see what they do tomarro, should i run the oil tank low since theres sti the break in oil, or shoukd i just top off with the gold?

I got a 12 pro 800 with the RKT drop in kit. Haven't turned up my oil at all. However, I'm going through a tank of oil a day. What's wrong with this?
