12 Pro coughed, choked, sneezed and died..

Took my 12 Pro and had it pre seasoned. I was told that likely the plugs would need replaced soon. The sled has 775 miles and has in it, it's second set of plugs.

Took it to the mountains yesterday and rode for 2-3 hours without any problems. toward the end I began hearing a barely noticeable sound in the low RPM's. On my way back to the truck the machine started cutting and bogging and after several seconds it coughed, farted then just quit. Whipped out my new set of plugs and put them in. Started right up and off I went thinking problem solved. 2-3 miles later same thing. Coughed bogged and quit. Now knowing it wasn't a plug issue, I began to wonder what I had recently changed that might be causing the problem. I just installed a tether 10 days ago with this being the first ride with it. I unplugged the tether and gave it a pull. Started right up. Took off down the trail and it ran like a scalded cat, never giving me another moments trouble all the way to the truck.

The tether I installed was the OEM Polaris tether. Plugged it right into the available plug inside the velcro'd pouch containing wires.

Will this tether cause this type of problems. What can I do to alleviate this problem? I did remove the tether key/rubber several times during the day but did not notice and obvious amounts of snow or ice in the cup.

BTW, the machine did not show any lights, codes nor did it message me any notes of distress.

Kinda like having a tether so really don't want to leave it disconnected.

Hmmm I couldn't see why it would matter to have it, my guess would be the contacter inside the kill switch is some loose. I just installed the OFT one myself and only thing I noticed was that when I plugged it in it took a fair amount to get it snugged in so I wrapped it in a good amount of tape to save it from getting loose, tomorrow will be the first day out.

I had the same problem last year with the OEM tether. Do you have the type that is handlebar mounted or with a hole, and collar nut.

I don't know why you would take a tether off a sled, finding out the problem with a safety devise and fixing it sounds a lot smarter.

Installed the oem tether at the beginning of last yr, zero problems so far. Mounted it below the switches on the lower console.

I have seen many of the polaris OEM style cause spark loss before. Removing all the washers etc may help, so that the rubber cap pushes the plunger further.

And many times, have had to screw a small screw into the center of the rubber cap, just so that it pushes the plunger even further into the switch.

Went away from OEM tether, after having the last one feeeze up all the time, therefore not killing the engine. Moisture around the plunger would freeze it into run position...

Had my sled out in pretty decent snow today with my OFT tether and no problems, sled got rolled over once so the the switch got buried and did not have any issues!!

Ok I'm not trying to preach here as I was ambushed about avy gear on another thread, but I PERSONALLY would not run without a tether if at all possible. Just today had a buddy trying to get a sled out of a creek bed and after a few pinball machine maneuvers ended up with his face a few inches from the track... Not a super close call or anything but it doesn't take much to be in a baaaad position.

I was wrapped around a PTO shaft behind a tractor as a kid and am lucky to have my arms, let alone my life so hell I'd put kill switches on everything if it were acceptable!!

I will let you know if my OFT switch gives me any troubles

I put a small screw inside the rubber cap as well. Solved that problem. Now the only issue is when i need to give the machine that last little push to get it over a hump before I get stuck. Goose the throttle and let go doesnt work anymore.

I took out the washer and replaced it with a thinner one, then put a screw in the rubber cap and it made all the difference. I rode all day in Togwotee today and didn't have one problem. Except parting ways with the sled and the tether worked as it should have. Thanks for all the help and suggestions!

Hopefully that was you're problem! I have my doubts, but surely a possibility.

Just remember with tethers... If at any point you feel one is giving you problems, simply unplug it from the factory sled side connection. This obviously removes the bonus of killing it, should you fall off, but it isolates the tether, taking it out of the equation. If after you unplug it, and the problem quits, it may help point out a problem with it. If it doesn't quit, you know its likely not a problem with the tether...

You may already have this figured out, just thought id add it.
