12-08-17 - Aerial Video of Mt Baker

Too bad it's technically illegal to fly a drone in the wildernesss. You guys need to get a clue!!! The flight that you posted on the other side of the mtn (last ride last season) has come up among the powers that be. Please don't post illegal activity on the internet, and STOP being a MT Baker cheerleader! WE DONT NEED IT. If you went through the process to get a photography permit, you should premise your video with that. Otherwise, everyone will think they can fly a drone in the wilderness...

From USFS- "UAS are considered to be both “motorized equipment” and “mechanical transport” and, as such, they cannot take off from, land in, or be operated from congressionally designated wilderness areas.
___you probably obeyed this part_____BUT also, and most important- "
Do not fy over congressionally designated wilderness areas or primitive areas as many people seek these places for the opportunities for solitude and quiet that they provide."

Awesome video Chris, you didn't break any laws, they can have their wilderness but they don't own the airspace above it. As long as you don't launch or land in said wilderness you're good, keep them coming, maybe something from the crater. As far as being a "cheerleader " I disagree, we need numbers to keep areas like this open, the more involved, responsible sledders that can appreciate Baker as a riding area, the better chance we have to keep it open.

YOU might be the one that needs to get a clue. Nothing shown in the video was illegal considering he took off and landed OUTSIDE of wilderness. (Let alone at the altitude and area he was flying, do you REALLY think there would ever be a complaint?)

"UAS are considered to be "mechanized” equipment and cannot take off and land in designated Wilderness Areas on National Forest System lands."

Maybe check this map as well....

I cant stand people like you, Chris goes out and tries to make an amazing video to share with all of us, that NO ONE paid him for, free enjoyment for all. Not sure what it is about you kind of people, but YOUR the problem. Your comment only makes these small waves bigger, which in fact then goes against your original concern.

And FYI, his video at twin lakes was also completely legal, both the flying and riding. There is a sliver of none wilderness up there and it is where he both rode and flew, so why don't you get a clue.....hater

Boy, I sure stirred up some dick hairs. My intention was to point out that the drone use is not legal as far as I could tell, and to alert the original poster.
Maybe I am reading the FS site wrong when they say- QUOTE "Do not fly (drones) over congressionally designated Wilderness Areas or Primitive Areas as many people seek these places for the opportunities for solitude and quiet that they provide."

Am I missing something in that sentence???

The drone footage last summer shows a person at the lookout hucking rocks at the drone!! Are you kidding me when you say "it's cool"???
I have heard that the best way for sledders to enforce the rules and keep our riding areas open is to point out to other sledders what is happening.... I guess I'll stop doing that.

I have skied off of colfax peak and colfax/lincoln saddle, so don't assume there is no one up there!!

I don't want to start a conversation, so last post for me.

Metzger I get why you are trying to defend the video but for a guy that is so tech savvy with all your toys I would think you would be smart enough to know that his YouTube channel is public and he can profit from views of the video. Sure the video is cool but why don't you make it private and keep it between you and your friends and keep this crap off public forums? If you want to get technical what is being done is wrong and the people that would fight you on this have way more money than the sled community can and/or will put up to fight them...

The real problem is that the only people that are really getting off their azz and raising hell are the ones against EVERYTHING BUT smoking weed, protesting and skiing or snowboarding. If anyone in their right mind thinks a battery powered drone operating at 12,000 ft at the very top of a mountain range is bothering someone. Then they obviously aren’t out in the mountains! they are just little bitches sitting at their key Boards.

You guys are running scarred!! Afraid to do what you can legally DO IN YOUR LAND!!! Your letting these greenie’s dictate what you do on the mountain. And now they have you even on a snowmobile forum, running scarred trying to make everyone else scared of them!!!!

And instead of spending the time actually knowing the law you would rather just get on this forum and try and create a chit storm.

Let the red thumbs fly girls. I don’t care.

Get a life.

Go metzger and go the original poster!!

Your post shows how ignorant you are. I'm pretty sure you have done zero to help the cause for snowmobiling.

The flight was not illegal, you can fly over wilderness if you don't take off or land in it. get off your magical soap box of made-up laws and liberal logic.

I am not making money off of it on youtube or anywhere else. I thought it was fun and wanted to share.

stop hating and go live your life.
