Went for a 5 hr ride and only logged 4.2 miles.

Is there supposed to be something under the speed sensor cover other than just a bear splined track shaft and bearing?

Does the sensor pickup off the shaft, or am I missing something in here?

It is a hall effect sensor and reads the difference in the high points and the low points on the (9 tooth?) splined piece. Essentially sending an electrical pulse every time on of the high points pass the sensor. The digital display counts these pulses and converts them to MPH and Miles traveled.

From your description you have all the pieces. The sensor may be bad but first make sure there is not too much excess grease and other foreign matter in the housing that is is trying to see thru to pick up the splined piece. If you want to check the sensor I have the Ohm values. PM me if you want them.

It's very clean inside, thanks for the info.
Pm'd you for the ohm values, thanks!

Don't forget the simple things-- connector and the wires that run behind the secondary.

Sometimes the wires will get rubbed by spinning secondary clutch and the wire connection is broken....

Never had it on speedo. Was only watching tach and temp.

Speaking of temp, at what temp is the temp light supposed to come on at?
Wondering what safe operating temp is on trail..

Safely suspend the rear of the sled with the track off the ground .. start it up and check the speedo for function.

Mine is a 14, but in good snow it is at 125-127* F, if I see 140 on the trail I look for powder to cool it down again.
