10th anniversay trip planning - $10K anywhere in the world - where should we go?

Lots to do in Sydney. I was there last November and the weather is excellent that time of year. The closer you get to December the warmer it will be. Depending on the amount of time you have go to Cairns and scuba or snorkel on the barrier reef.

I haven't been to Fiji or New Zealand, but have friends that have been to both and they are excellent too. Both are a fairly short flight from Sydney.

Sydney is very safe, but as with all travel keep your guard up and you will be fine.

Someone else mentioned Thailand as well. That is an excellent place to go, inexpensive and beaches like none other in the Phuket area. Swimsuit is about all you will need.

I don't want to start a fight here, but you can go to Hawaii anytime fairly cheap. This is a special trip, go somewhere most people don't get a chance to go. The world isn't as scary as CNN would like everybody to think.

I've been traveling with my wife and two kids for 3 1/2 months already for less than your budget. Never felt unsafe anywhere. Thailand, Malaysia, Israel, Jordan, Greece, and now Italy. My advice...cheaper parts of the world use less of your budget on lodging/transport so you feel free to spend on food and experiences. Way more bang for buck.
All that said, if you are worried about safety (turn off the tv!) and travel convenience matters for your timeline or something it is hard to beat Kauai. We love it there. Renting a condo can be nicer and cheaper than the resorts.
