10th anniversay trip planning - $10K anywhere in the world - where should we go?

We're trying to figure out where to go for our 10th Anniversary trip this fall. We usually go to Cancun, Riveriera Maya, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, etc. at Thanksgiving. This year we want to step it up a bit instead of just more of the same.

#1 priority is it has to be WARM, like swimsuit weather for most of the day. Ideally, we would like to find somewhere that offers scenic outdoor activities like hiking / backpacking, rafting, kayaking, etc. in addition to staying on some kind of higher end resort. I don't want to have nothing to do except sit on the beach for a week straight. But I don't want to be walking 10 miles a day every day either. Doing something like backpacking across Europe is of no interest.

I don't really watch the news, but I've been told that there are a lot of areas in the world that Americans are not welcome, and its downright not safe to be there, at least not without a private escort / interpreter.

We were originally thinking Fiji, but it looks like that might lacking in the "things to do" department. We were also thinking about Australia.

Any help?

I have never been so take that for what its worth but I have had a few freinds go to Australia. might be worth a shot

Doe sit have to be outside the US? If not, how about Kauai, Hawaii? Plenty of outdoor stuff to do, and it's fairly tropical. The St. Regis resort at Princeville is certainly "higher end" (5 star), as is the Grand Hyatt in Poipu. Downside is that because Kauai is a relatively small and undeveloped island, there is not exactly a raging nightlife.

St. Regis in bora bora is amazing from what I've heard too. Perhaps Austrailia, New Zealand, and bora bora all in one trip? I'm not sure what that would run you, but it sure sounds enticing!

With $10k in your pocket you could go to Belize and live like a King and have the time of your life.

For 10k you can come to my house and we'll turn the heater up enough so you can wear a swiming suit as much as you want. I'll even let you have your own bedroom with a big screen TV and bathroom at no extra charge :face-icon-small-hap

Seriously though, I'd say Kauai in Hawaii also. The scenery there is unlike anywhere else in the world imo, and you can always take a puddle jumper to some of the other islands as well for more variety, and you don't have to mess with a different language, or lack of USA comforts, and you'd be safely in the states. Just my thoughts.

i'd buy another sled, but if you've got plenty of them then i'm with mjunkie hawaii. lived there for a couple of years and there are plenty of islands to go to.

Another vote for Princeville Resort...and daily journey to Hanalei Bay...until the rain comes over the mountain, then repeat routine daily.

$10K in Fiji wont get you much, Very pricey place. We went ot Aruba in Sept, it was nice. It's a small island but I like to deep sea fish and drink to excess on the beach. I was in Singapore in 2005 that was a fun place. Call a travel agent and get some recomendations.

phi phi island Thailand. Absolutely amazing place. Cant wait to go back! Its near the island that they filmed that movie, "the beach" with that douche, Leonardo DiCaprio.

Vacations are so overrated, find a good financial advisor, put your money away and forget about it. When you are 60 you can thank me.:face-icon-small-hap

or visiting your financial advisor in prison asking him what he did with your savings....and hunting you down to raid your fridge...
