'10 Dragon w/new slp single and hps can cutting out at full throttle

I have a '10 D8 that i have owned since new, i recently installed a slp single and and left my hps can on when i installed it. I have also loaded the slp map on my pcv and set tps, etc...

Here is my problem(s):
-cuts out at full throttle after holding it wide open for a while while climbing, it willl bog down to around 7k, then usually eventually if you continue to hold it wide open it climbs back up
-seems to have either a really rich spot or lean spot around 6500 rpms, the sled ran like crap in that rpm range today, so i just tried to avoid it.

My question is do you think that it could have anything to do with my hps can, or is there something else going on? Othewise it seemed to run good, definately felt a bit more power/torque compared to stock. Thanks!

I'm not an expert at mixing different company components but my guess is they don't match. A pipes flow rate and restrictions are tuned for both the pipe and can. The HPS can was most likely for a stock pipe which you don't have anymore. The SLP pipe might be allowing to much flow threw the HPS can and it's counting on an SLP can to help restrict it.

I would be worried about very lean conditions with the mixed set!!!

You may still be hitting the rev limiter during a RPM peak that the max RPM record does not show, sending your sled into limp mode.

I'd try the stock can, then maybe stock pipe as well if the can doesn't work.

Go in this order:
-Stock can
-Stock can and Stock pipe

I have that exact setup. The SLP single pipe and an HPS can. I also have the billet head from SLP that raises the compression. I am not sure which fuel mapping I'm running but it is an SLP map. I've never experienced what you are describing. This thing runs well throughout the band even if held wot for long climbs.

Mine did the exact same thing before it imploded last year. Pull the top end down and inspect all the skirts. I think my piston skirt broke and put a hole in the case making it go lean before the cylinder skirt went and took out EVERYTHING. Good luck.

I have the same sled with the same pipe and can. I bought the sled new and the first three rides were stock. I then installed the pipe and can and loved it. About 5 or 6 rides after installing them, I had a plug wire pop off right at the top of a good climb. Sled ran like crap after popping it back on, so I changed plugs. Still ran awful for a few more mins, then cleared up and ran fine. About a half hour later, i started getting the full throttle cut-out you are seeing. It doesn't happen all the time, but a few times each ride. Coincidental with the plug cap popping off? Don't know. But it sure is irritating when it happens. This was back in Feb 2010. Did it all last season and have had it happen both rides this season. Wish I could get rid of it. May put the stock pipe on for a ride this year and see what happens.

Just an update on my sled. Started running ethenol free gas this year as there is a station near my home carrying it now. Went riding the other day and decided to plug my wies together. Well, the sled ran awsome! It was definatly stronger and never had a cutout or hiccup all day. RPMs held steady at 8300 on all my long pulls. If you can get ethenol free gas, give it a shot and see if that corrects the issue on your sled.
