10,000 descend on DC to protest gvt controlled health care

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1109/29183.html
Here's the article cut and pasted (just the first page), but the video and photos of the waves of people are on the link. Not quite the million plus who showed up for September 12, but pretty dang good for a couple days' notice.

Latest estimates actually 20,000 to 45,000

=========
The Tea Party holds no seat in Congress, but at least 10,000 of the party’s members descended on Capitol Hill Thursday to rally against a Democratic-written health care overhaul.

A plan first hatched and heralded on FOX by iconic conservative Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) grew over the weekend as she e-mailed with a handful of colleagues. By the time activists started arriving at the foot of the Capitol around 8:30 a.m., it was clear no Republican leader could stay away.

Minority Leader John Boehner, Republican Whip Eric Cantor and Conference Chairman Mike Pence all spoke.

Inside, Democrats were working to finalize a trillion-dollar health care bill that they say will deliver insurance to tens of millions of Americans who currently lack it, improve the quality of care and rein in costs both for individuals and the government.

Outside, on the grassy lawn just steps from where Barack Obama took the oath of office, an endless lineup of rank-and-file lawmakers and conservative All Stars – Bachmann, Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, actor Jon Voigt and Mark Levin, author of “Liberty and Tyranny” – demanded that the health care bill be torn asunder.

“Madam Speaker, throw out this bill,” bellowed Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-Mich.).

“Oh come on, tell them how you really feel,” Bachmann yelled to the crowd from a temporary podium at the foot of the Capitol.

“Kill the bill! Kill the bill! Kill the bill!” the crowd replied.

“That’s exactly what you’re going to tell them,” said Bachmann, who was the clear favorite of the assembled masses.

“She has more cojones than a lot of guys,” said Barbara McGrath, who traveled from Troy, Ohio, to participate.

When she took the microphone, Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Ohio) pointed to the three House office buildings across Independence Avenue from the rally.

“I invite you, when the rally's over, to travel in those halls, look at the walls, find your (member) and walk in," she said. "Let them know how you feel about this bill."

Within an hour, activists were lined up down Independence Avenue to go through the magnetometers in the lobby of the Rayburn Office Building so they could confront members and staff. Bachman told them to each take a page – or a piece of a page – from one of two copies of the bill at the podium and ask a member to explain the text to them.

Bachmann’s office and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s district office were surrounded by the Tea Partiers shortly after the rally ended, and the floor outside Pelosi’s office was covered in pages of the bill.

When I click on that link it brings up the page but there is a google toolbar pop up thanking me for installing the google toolbar, I don't want that!!! Plus, I can't exit the page or do anything but click on OK and I've been down that road before.

Why haven't we hear of these 10k people on the news at all? Where are the conspiracy theorists saying that the shooting in TX is a cover up for the health care protests??? Protest away!!!!!! Throw egss or whatever you have to do...:D

Why haven't the media covered it?

For the same reason they are reporting the 9 arrested for demanding health care.
For the same reason they never reported the massive tea party rally a couple months back.

They don't want people to know they aren't the only ones demanding the constitution be upheld. They bury anything that might make bo and company look bad.

Oh, and I didn't have the google thing pop up on me at all.

All media is in bed with osama obama, except FOX AND it's affiliates. I'll never again listen to anyone other than Fox/affiliates except to critize them for not being news
jounalists. Our freedoms are being taken from U.S and the "sheep" just can't/won't
accept it! wafjtai buy ammo and guns fast

Go to politico.com and look for the article on the front page. Tea Partiers Descend on Capitol.
See if that works.

WOW!
ABC ran a full story on it.
SHOCKED the heck out of me.
I have seen quite a bit more from ABC. I think ABC has decided it pays to bash bo.

Michelle Bachmann makes me proud to be a Minnesotan. I am glad she is representing my district.

CBS covered it as well, the news just seems better when Katie Couric is anchoring, she's so better on the eyes than Brian Williams.

Can any of you remember a time when 10's of thousands of people gathered on the steps of the Capital to protest legislation and policy? (other than 9/12) In war time, yes there have been protests, but I've never heard of an uprising like this on legislation. This is huge and it is such a disappointment how little coverage it gets, even from FOX and talk radio.

Fox ran a 30 minute segment on it and why people are so upset.

What I find amazing is the fact the politicians are ignoring it (or at least are seeming to).

The Republicans are at the rallies, but the Democrats feel that they know what the people want, even though the people keep speaking out against it. The Dems are too busy pandering to the welfare, poor, and illegals for their votes.

Lets see, That would be the ones that forgot to show up & vote the other day :o

Gainster is correct though......... thats who they pander to , and exit polls show little support from those groups. Bo is on a slippery slope........ someone should give him a hand..... in the middle of his back!

I watch a fair amount of news and didn't see any segments, but I can't turn to any station in the past two days and not hear about the tragedy in Texas. I'm not downplaying the horrific situation in Texas, however the uprising of our citizens against these policies is a very BIG deal. The amount of coverage is pathetic. We are not a fringe group here. What is happening is historic.

I don't think the politicians are ignoring it, they just don't care. They want to run health care and this lousy economy, period. The whole reason they are rushing to ram it through is because they are afraid of what we'll think if we get a chance to see it. Pelosi knows this is very unpopular, that's why she'll let some Dems from swing states not vote for it.

They are crooks and should be shackled and put in jail!

I don't think it is the fact they don't care.
It's that they figure if they can get this thing passed they will have a year to spin it to make it look like they did a good job.

If they can't get it done they will simply blame the party of "NO" for stopping them. They figure they have a win win cituation. They are counting on the notoriously short memories of the american people.

You're right, "don't care" wasn't the exact right choice of words. They know America doesn't want it. The objections to this legislation are unprecedented. They do care, only in the sense of whether they can pass this and get re-elected. However, they are clearly disregarding their constituents opinions and will move forward regardless. The politics and bullying going on right now, towards those Dems opposing health care, must be out of this world.

If Barry, Pelosi, and Reid, truly think they are doing what the citizens of this country want they are either blind or in serious denial. I don't think that is the case. I think they are corrupt, and as said before, should be hauled off to prison for not upholding the constitution and stealing our money.

This is America, lets keep it that way. If you want socialism there are many other countries in this world you can move to.
