1-17-15 Gallagher Ride???

image.jpgMain road was fresh 4 inches this morning and the groomer was heading back down at 330. Once you turn off the main road grab your boot straps and hang on. Whoop whoop with a lil more whoop and ice. Not to mention the 17 creek crossings. Today was sun and areas of fog. Snow was wind blown on south faces. All areas had 4-8 inches of fresh on top of ice. Side hilling is sketch cause when you hit the ice the track washes out. If we get more snow it will be perfect Avalanche conditions. Speaking of Avalanche the short cut to Gallagher is off limits due to a large slide. This is the one horse track into the trees that is a couple miles past the main turn off. Avy debri is about 10 ft boulders of snow

Summary:
Today was decent considering the previous conditions. The sun and the little bit of fluff made it worth the trek and the lack of wind they predicted. Was it good enough to make me want to ride again tomorrow? NOPE. If you haven't been out much this may be the chance

I just want to add that I counted 17 creek crossings as well. Some were not so bad and one felt like we were at a water cross event. Still not a bad day. Again be careful with then new heavy snow coming and the ice layer, there will be some slides happening.

Rode our there yesterday, lots of ice on the uphill side of the creek crossings which made some of them tricky, some of the crossings were getting very deep from slush building up on the down hill side had to clear a few drains to drop the water level.

overall still a great day riding!

ride thursday

Hey we're planning on riding thursday. Neither of us have done water crossings before. How serious are these 17 crossings? Are we talking Fail = rider getting wet or fail = sled damaged / submerged? Thanks

by now it could be a little of both. When you drop into the creek there are walls about 8-10 inches on the other side where your skis of solid ice and rock. I have heard of bent carbides happening. I fear tearing up a track on the jagged rocks in the bottom of the creek as you hopelessly spin on the ice trying to make it up the other side with your wet foot buddy pulling on your ski. Post pics if you go

no sinking sleds, small 2ft crossings, poss. a wet foot. mostly just a hastle

Thanks for the clarification. I was halfway picturing riding across a swimming pool of ice cubes.

I was riding in the area we were last time, all day. I didn't see anyone all day! It looked like we were the second to last ones up there. Was my truck not on the side of the road when you left?
