09 XP real dog

Ok this is now my buddy`s second ride on his 800 X and after a full day of messin around I would say it go`s about as good as a good running 600. He has a slp can, venting and is running clicker 4 to get 8000rpm at 5000 feet. Clicker 5 has no affect at all. He was getting beat all day by a dragon 7 both on the hill and across a small lake. It must be clutching but its so bad that he is about to go and see if he can get his money back.

Any ideas?

Take it in, have them check it out. Sounds like clutch issues. Also, everyone knows Dragons are far superior!!!!;) It needs tweeked, once done he will sheet himself!!

yeah, breakin its gonna be kinda weak, wait a while, if it dont get any better, dynamoe joe the clutching, best money you can spend on a doo IMO...

He should be running around 8200-8250rpm's. The D7 should be able to beat him on a lake. They have longer legs than the XP's. I rode with a D7 last year a few times, and he could beat me down the road all day. The steep & deep, he had a hard time hanging. He had to poach track to get to where we were at alot of the time.

Here we go again, do a search for ski-doo and clutching, you will blow up your computer with all the postings. :face-icon-small-dis

No trouble yet.

I had a lot of trouble with my X-RS clutching, but no problems yet with my 09 summit. Don't have very many miles yet, but hoping for the best.

We have 5 09 X models with stock clutching, our sleds are running 94-95 mph down the straight aways with stock clutching and stock gearing. The clutching doesn't seem to be perfect, but we wont know until the break in point is over and we get them in the hills. We have one with a slp head, pipe, and exaust valve modified, and they leave the stock sleds in the dust. Rod

I heard that the exhaust valves will not go full open until the break in period has expired. If this is true, just wait a couple hundred miles. This would explain the low rpms many 09 owners are mentioning. I put it out there:

Is there a 09 that is hitting 8150 or more rpm's?

mine, after about 30 miles, can hit 8200 and stays there rock solid.....powder and hardpack.. this was at 8100'.... down lower at 6200' it was hitting 8400-8500....

but, I also payed to have the clutching setup properly by a dealer that takes the time to find the right setup..by actually testing on the snow setups... You'd be suprised how far off the out-of-the-box clutching is, and most dealers just take them out of the crate and hand them over....

I laugh when I read about most of these clutching issues people are having..... find a dealer that knows how to setup a clutch and you won't be unhappy!

That's great you have a dealer that takes care of you. I've never experienced dealer support to the point that they did anything besides the mfg. recommendations for our elevation. And no offense to any dealers, but how many dealers out there will actually throw the right parts at a brand new sled to get it to work? Would be awesome if they did these changes on their own dime, but i've never even seen it.

Curious, but what exactly did your dealer doo to "fix" your clutching??? Did they even tell you? It sure would be helpful to others on here if you shared the change beyond "my dealer's awesome, and your's blows..."

Are dealer removed all the weight from the pins and replaced stock long pins with the shorter pins. are sleds are running tach at 7500 to 8000 feet. The rest of the clutching is stock. rod

I didn't say they do this for free.... I probably could have bought the sled cheaper from another dealer that does not do there own clutch testing on the snow.... But to me, it is worth every penny to have it dialed when I get it and not have to post about how unhappy I am....

I can spend time wrenching on my machine, but I don't want to and don't have time to...

as to your question about them telling me what they did..... I didn't ask and they didn't tell me.....

Did he clean the clutches and belt before the first ride? The shipping oil that is put on the clutches needs to be cleaned or the belt will slip and or the primary will stick. You would think the dealer would do this on every sled that goes out the door but that does not seem to be the case.

The belt deflection was way off on mine when I picked it up last thurs. Belt was running way too deep in the secondary. Btw the 09 adj. works well.

Belt deflection is right , the clutchs are clean and still it runs like crap. The dealer said that the dpm might not be working and to pull the hoses off and spray some WD 40 in there to try to free the plunger. The thing has no snap at all and won`t lift the skis over creeks or anything.

can you clean the clutchs with out disassemble.? i was thinking about spraying with brack cleaner then hot water soap. will it work or should i disassemble
