09 Secondary Clutch Adjuster Differences?

Myself and a friend have both purchased new 09 xp's this year and when installing Quick Clickers I noticed a real difference between them. One is a 154X and the other is 163X. On the 154 the adjuster is plastic just like the 08's and on the 163 it is aluminium and looks a lot different.
What is the difference between the two?

Only the 163's got the new adjuster. It allows you to change the belt by screwing in a tool and no need to reset the belt deflection every time. Much nicer and tougher. See if your dealer can get you one, I hear there may be an update for those that didn't get the new style.

Well for starter the 163 uses a threaded key to open the sheave, which is how it used to work on the TRA.....If you got stuck with the plastic style get ahold of Supreme Tool & Machine and purchase there billet setup to replace the plastic BS BRP sold you.

And eveytime you open the sheave to change the belt you should always check your belt deflection.

Open your tool kit located on your belt cover. Inside the kit theres a shinny threaded key that will screw into the only hole on the secondary clutch. Screw the key in and the sheave will open.... Just how the TRA until 2008 used to work and how the Team secondary always worked.

Always check your belt deflection when changing the belt

not what i meant, try and remove the adjuster so you can thread in your spring compression tool to remove the helix.

SteelTech, Have you untreaded those set screws that are in the aluminum housing? Looks like there are 2 screws. If you cant get it out after all that, then there is something wrong. There isnt anything else involved to prevent it from coming out.

The aluminium adjuster is a late year running change, all xp's produced after a certain date will have them. I'm not sure of the exact date but it was supposed to be late september, so all e-tecs should have them. The part number for the new adjuster is in the one-day book all look it up and post it tommorrow.

The new adjuster is designed to allow you to take off the belt without having to reset the belt deflection every time you remove the belt. Looks to be a better design alltho I have not seen one first hand as of yet. Just got the first load of e-tec's today so should be building some in the next day or so and I should see one first hand.

oh' and it will retro onto any xp with no mods.

well im going to call and ***** tomorow i payed for the 09 for the updates and mine doesnt have them.

Doesn't sound like BRP is going to do squat for those who's sleds came with the plastic pos, but my dealer said he is biting the bullet and giving them out to those who ordered 09's and got the 50 cent plastic pos!

my dealer said BRP is and will change out the plastic part with the new metal part as they fail.......No Charge!

Replace when they fail? Do these fail often or are they just a PITA to deal with? Trying to figure out if I have a potential issue on the hills, my 09 154 has the plastic adjuster. Thanks for posting the diff pics!!

Dealer said no problem

My dealer said he will replace it for free as soon as he can get the parts. I guess it depends on where you buy them.
