09 pull starter

Went out last week and my buddy's 09 xp starter rope refused to engage.
Had to use the rope to start all day
got back to the trailer and it worked fine.
Is there an easy fix for this??

Buddy's 09 did the same thing after 7 miles. He has a MBRP can on his but I had the stock can and mine didn't do it. Took his to the dealer and they replaced the whole recoil. What happened was the plastic inside got hot and started to melt and warp so everything was sticking. Once it cooled down it would work. I would put reflective tape on your recoil cover. What is weird is his 08 has a Bikeman can and 700 miles and never had a problem. Hope this helps.

Lots of them seem to be melting, the whole problem would go away if they put a steel rewind on it or even some decent heat tape. The one i worked on melted the rope sheave to the center post, there was way too much sticky grease in there too.

i heard it was doing that with the suit case muffler. so i ordered mbrp so that wouldn't happen to me.
