Anyone had one apart and noticed if the bolt driveshaft is different from 08?? I heard from a birdie that the new bolt has a shoulder and slips inside the end of the driveshaft for extra strength and then threads in deeper....can anyone verify this?? Got part numbers?? Anyone bought the bolt and modified there driveshaft?? thanks Thistle

They are different. But we had an 09 with the updated driveshaft and bolt break the bolt. It had 200kms on it.

NFW...you serious? So is the shoulder of the bolt alot bigger?? 200KMS??

NFW...why does it break??????????????????? is that shaft flexing that much?? I cant figure it out.

The bolt shaft, where there are no threads is bigger, (from the head to the threads) but the thread size is the same as 08. Tapers down where the threads start. The bolt broke 3 threads in.

OK there goes my theory of the shoulder taking the load then....wow I thought that would solve this issue...I guess I'll just keep drilling out my bolt ever time I service the chaincase....YAMAHA whats the fix here?

Amazing there is not a bulletin on this. I was told by a Yamaha Service Manager that Yamaha isn't doing anything because not enough have been found yet on stock sleds. No reason to open the chaincase on a stock machine, so none are getting discovered. The only one's finding the problem are those of us modding our sleds.

I suppose thats legit....what did you do on yours?? Just leave it out? I was gonna switch up to the new style but why bother....just keep using the left hand drill bits I guess:eek:

I took the stock bolt to a fastener supplier and was told it was a grade 8 bolt already (actually a metric 10, basically the same as grade 8)...so I just put a stock bolt back in.

If you have your driveshaft out, you need to install the gears first (with the bolt) before doing the bearing on the clutch side...it sets the location.

Would it work to drill it out and re-thread it one bolt size bigger? A bigger bolt should be stronger.

On my 2008 Nytro MTX I changed my track at 200 miles and bolt was fine.I made some careful measurements and found that the bolt is not too long as some people have suggested. What I did find when tightening bolt that it pulls the main aluminum bulkheads togeather about.035.Perhaps with some heavy pounding the sides flexing might put enough pressure against bolt to break it off.I also thought the torque spec.may be to high so I set bolt torque 10 lbs less with blue loctite and I will check again after the next 500 miles.

i had 2 08 mtx's apart in the last few weeks, both bolts were fine. torqued to 40 ft pounds like the manual stated. wonder if people are over torquing then having the above flex on the bulkhead and POP!

both sleds have reverse. ski

I changed my track this year, and my bolt was fine after 730 miles. However, my buddy's REV shattered his chaincase when the same bolthead broke and found it's way between the chain and case, busted the chain and both halves of the case. At least the Yammi's don't have that problem, 'cause there'd be a ton of busted cases!!!
