what if any are the draw backs to removing all of the hood insulation?
yesterday i found 2 metal clips under the secondary and i want to remove all metal clips from the hood for the screens and insulation. my clutch sheaves look fine so the clips didn't get to go for a ride.:)
do i need to put heat tape on the inside of the hood after insulation removal?

I would definitely put on heat tape! For sure in areas that are close to the pipe. If it was me, I would just do the whole thing. And the only draw backs, it might be a bit louder! Definitely would suggest it!

I just took mine out today. I had read about the clips coming off also and was a little worried. Got it all out and was going to heat tape the hood in the same spots that were taped on the insulation. On mine it seems that the insulation holds in the nose vents. What are you guys doing to hold them in? Hot glue, silicone, or ? Thanks, Clint

Just put frogzskins on the nose vents and remove the metal screens like on the 2010's. Thats what i have on there and it works just fine.

I put my spare hood on without intake, insulation or heat tape and found it is definitely louder but i run a MBRP can. I installed a bunch of hood vents to keep things cool and did not bother with the heat tape. I did not bother with the stock vents and put the newer style frog skins over the stock front vent holes Stays so cool under the hood that the little bit of snow that gets under the hood does not even melt. So much for thinking that my Timbersled intake would be sucking hot under hood air.;) If you keep the stock intake i would use the heat tape.:beer;

Get the Frog Skinz. :D

I just removed mine today to fix the crack where my hood hinge cables attach. Man it pisses me off to have a big crack in my brand new hood from merely opening the hood.

I did tape the entire inside of the hood (except where the stock intake is)with high temp tape. I hope it doesn't allow my hood to melt.

Some of my clips were just barely hanging there too.

I removed all the clips, insulation and screens. Put frogzskins over all the vent holes and heat tape where there was heat tape before. No problemo

I removed mine last year. Saves maybe a pound or two. Definately makes it louder, but not overly. I would heat tape up the hood where the insulation has it and more.

I think i'm in the minority, but I leave mine it. I've got a turbo, but I like my stuff as quiet as possible and it is so much more quiet with the insulation. I never realized how much motor noise is not exhaust noise on these things. Well worth a pound or two to not have to wear earplugs.
