09 m8 engine bogging

I've got about 5 rides on my new 09 m8 sno pro. The last ride it started bogging/spluttering at low revs. Anyone had this happen & know a solution?

I'm going to change the plugs tmrw. I'm Thinking they might be oily from running the machine during initial break-in with extra oil.

I put some Polaris (synthetic power valve) oil in it about 2 rides ago - but my other cat runs just fine with it... for 2 years no problem.

It seems to run fine 1/4 --1/3 throttle & up.
Any suggestions welcome

Dre

bog

My sled seems to bog on the low end also. I have the BDX air intake and the SLP Can on mine, stock other than that and I am running 92 octane.

Mine does it too although its more of a burble than a bog. Punch it and it clears right up. 85 octane gas so it could be a gas issue? Let a friend borrow it and he used 91 and it ran way better. I have to drive 20 miles out of the way for 91 but the crappy gas is right down the road.

There's a real good chance it's the oil pump sticking and/or just over oiling . Some come from the factory and every thing is fine. Others are over oiling and fouling the plugs. I changed plugs at 300 miles the 1st time , 200 2nd time and 200 the next. Since you're on your 5th ride that sounds about right to have you're plugs fouling. If your sled is brand new and under warranty maybe they will replace the pump or maybe it's just amatter of reducing oil flow. 1 of the local riders had to make 3 turns on the flow rod to stop the plug fouling. When I was having problems I checked oil /fuel consumption ratio and it was 36:1 for 2 rides. I cut down the oil flow 1 turn of rod and now it's 40:1. Also shortened the return spring on the oil pump lever by about 3/8", but may still be over-oiling a little. Do a search on this forum "2009 M8 oil pump sticking" for more info and how-to. I think most dealers know by now about this problem and a good one will be able to help you out. Maybe you've got something else going on, but this would be a good bet. I've been reluctant to cut down oil flow any further because that could create a lot worse problem, so I'm preceding with caution. One of my riding partners has an '08 M8 and he didn't change plugs until 1400 mi and not because it was necessary, just figured it was time. So I'm going to get him to monitor his oil/fuel ratio and see what a seemingly normal M8 is. You mentioned you were going to change plugs, bet they were fouling. Good luck !

the 09 sleds work better on 85-87 depending on altitude, without a pipe or head there is no benefit to running 91 in them.

The airbox & can does not necessitate the use of 91, go back to 87.

It sounds like an oil issue. Most stock sleds dump way too much oil. Pull off your pipe and check your y-pipe. Ideally it should be mostly dry with some oil on the bottom. If it is really wet then the oil needs to be turned down. lengthening the oil injection arm will do this.

Plug change helped

The sled is stock. No mods & running on the recommended gas - 87.

I changed the plugs. That seemed to help. The interesting thing is that the old plugs didn't look too bad, meaning excessively oily. They we not perfect though. Going to ride it as normal & see how it goes.

I only have 20 miles on mine but mine does bog or burble at low rpm when starting off, but clears up when I give it gas. I am still on my pre-mix tank and may do another pre-mix tank to be on the safe side with this machine. I also checked my oil pump and it seemed to be sticking so I put an o-ring over the 2 tabs (see the thread on oil pump sticking)

Didn't make a difference on the burble

I would suggest getting rid of the oil pump all together. They seem to way over oil. Im not a fan of turning them down either. At least with pre mix you know what you are running all the time.

Where did you get it from? I am in PDX as well we still need to hook up for a ride. I havent ridden much at all this year due to the crap conditions.

Hit me back.

Last year I had a simalar problem but also could not restart sometimes.

Turned out I had a leaking injecter, warranty claim fixed it. Must have been that way from the get go, it now runs like it never did !
