09 D8 No Start after bumping kill switch

My son had been riding all day yesterday in Cooke and on the way back to the truck we stopped and played in a open meadow full of untouched powder and after 30 minutes he accidentally bumped the kill/shut off switch and the sled would not restart. After some checking we found fuel & spark but when you pulled it over the headlight did not light at all. After dragging the sled out of 2-3 feet of fresh, pulling the belt, & towing the sled back down the trail about 10 miles we got back to the truck and now the sled starts and runs ok now.

We just had the voltage regulator replaced again earlier this week but the ECU was fine and the first new VR was defective out of the box but now the sled has had 3 VR's in 2 years with low miles now.

I am guessing after the VR or ECU cooled down it worked again? Yes we also pulled the kill switch back up into the run or on position. The sled does have a PC5 so any thought's or experience with this type of issue would be a great help. We have all ready checked for any possible shorts in the wiring as well.

That's a good one. Normally the kill switch grounds the ignition to stop the spark. You say you had spark so that kind of eliminates the kill switch. The circuit that powers the light also powers the fuel pump I believe but you say you had fuel, I wonder if you really had enough power to run the pump or if you just saw residual pressure in the line. Maybe the ECU wasn't getting the correct signal from the fuel system and therefore not firing the injectors. It should have run if you had spark and the injectors were firing. All of this is speculation if you can't reproduce the issue and it will be impossible to figure out what is causing it. VR seem to be an ongoing issue so that's probably the cause. They cook ECUs too. You are probably on the right track thinking it's a VR problem. I believe there is a post with a long discussion about that and some ways to minimize it on this site.

I did the exact same thing yesterday.im running rich, bumped the kill switch while on the throttle, tried to start for 15 minutes plugs werent fouled but walked home to grab some just to try, came back pulled it over just for the hell of it and it fired just fine without changing plugs.Let me kno if you find the cause.thanks

Wolfzkill, My sled has worked fine ever since this occured and it has not missed a beat since.

Isnt there some sort of sequence of pulls of the rope with kill switch down and then up to "clear" the ECU of any fault, code, etc...
Im pretty sure Ive had to do it but cant remember what it is to save arse right now.

Correct I'm sure this is the problem of both guys above. When you hit the kill switch at WFO it spazzes out the ecu. Either wait it out, or turn the key off pull it over 3-5 times then turn key on and it should start. I'm pretty sure that's all there is to do. You can ask your dealer or call TRI City Polaris and ask them. It only happened to me once back when my D8 was brand new. After that I had the rubber band under my kill switch!!!

exactly , learned this about 2 yrs ago on my 08 d8, anytime it dies for what ever reason and won't restart after 3-5 pulls, turn off key, pull a couple times, turn it back on and away you go, i've had an o-ring under my kill since new, but have to use this trick from time to time
