09 D8, CRANK/CLUTCH GALLING

AT SOME POINT MY CLUTCH SPUN ON THE CRANKSHAFT, CAUSING IT TO GALL SLIGHTLY, TOOK IT TO MY DEALER TO HAVE THE CLUTCH REAMED AND THEY SAID THE REAMER DIDN'T FIT, DOES ANYBODY KNOW THE DEGREE OF REAMER (PTO CRANK END TAPER DEGREE) IT TAKES TO CLEAN IT UP? WHAT TO DO ON THE CRANK END? PROBABLY USE EMERY CLOTH TO REMOVE GALLED SPOTS, ANYBODY HAVE A GOOD METHOD? THANKS

The reamers are kind of expensive to buy for such little need for one. I would probably look to send it off to have it reamed and balanced at the same time if your dealer doesn't have the right tools. Emery cloth is the correct way to clean up the crank snout.

NOT SURE IF THE TOOLS ARE RIGHT OR NOT, HE HAS THE DEGREE SPECS FOR THE TOOLS, BUT NOT SURE OF THE TAPER ON THE CRANK. HE TRIED TO REAM GENTLY AND IT DIDN'T CLEAN UP RIGHT AWAY.

WHEN TWO PIECES OF MATERIAL RUB UP AGAINST EACH OTHER TO THE POINT THAT THE METAL IS TRANSFERRED OR WORN INTO THE OTHER. (NO LUBE OR SOMETHING THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE HELD TIGHT SPINS UNDER PRESSURE.)

LMAO! He knows what galling is, he's jacking with your spelling.:face-icon-small-win

The proper term is "Gall or Galled" Micro welding of two similar base metals.

Stainless steel is prone to Gall, this is why we use dissimilar materials on nuts and bolts ie. 304 bolts with 18-8 nuts and anti-seize.

Sorry spelling was not right, back to what my first question was.... anybody know the taper of the crank so I can get this thing fixed? Thanks
