Just an obsevation, I hope it helps

This last week my buddy an I were competing on Feather Ridge West Yelly.
The new M was way better than the XP. As he spent time tweeking his sled to no avail, an 800 Dragon, another XP and a RT-1000 came to play. They didn't know but they all fell short of the M's marks. Everyone seemed to use fresh tracks.
Why did the Poo fall short? I think their track paddles are too stiff. Good , maybe for spun out or packed climbs, but not too good for loose snow.

I love my D8! I have a friend with an 09 m8 153 and he complains of hard steering and didnt really seem to like the front suspension. I dont know why though fox floats are pretty amazing, but thats just what he said. My front end sure isnt heavy or hard to steer...with me being only 120 pounds, the skis are never on the ground!:D

He does know how to adjust the limiter strap to take away ski pressure right?

both are great sleds..ride them both and see what you like better..I have an 08 163 and rode with an 09 m-8 this weekend...both put good marks on the hill hard to say till we get fresher snow as to best for hi-marking....better setup sled in my opinion always gets the mark....

yeah, those sleds are both so dang close seen a few runnig, honestly, rider weight and setup is going to dictate how well they do. find a good dealer or one you just like the color of more at this point.

If your not set on a sled yet. Look at a D7. They seem to not have all the little problems. I ride a D7 and father-in-law rides a D8. The D8 doesnt climb any high and gets stomped in a race.

My sled is a 151 and the D8 is a 163. The track is why i kill him in a race. But he should out climb me. Just my 2 cents

I ride a 09 M8 SP 153 and am impressed from bumper to ski tip. I have also heard good things about the dragon sleds. Im with AKSNOWRIDER, you gotta try to ride both sleds, really the only way to decide if your on the fence. Find a good dealer and ride one like you stole it :D

either

There both good sleds, I think the polaris is easier to throw around, but believe the M sled may be a better technical tree sled. As for climbing they both will go where you probally shouldnt be, just got out and demo both sleds, and customer service at your dealer should be a big part of the decision. I ride Polaris because of the service I recieve from Polaris Junction. I would be looking the the 700 if it were me. Seems like the 8's have more problems and I dont like the monoblock. Make up the power with some porting, pipes, etc.

I have an 08 800 dragon 163 , good buddy has a 07 M8 153. We ride together often and both agree that in the deep soft snow, flat and climbs, the dragon is better. We also both agree that the m8 is a better all around sled for mixed riding and has better manners as the snow gets harder. The differences are noticeable enough that the extra track on the dragon is not the game changer in the deep. We swap sleds and both come to the same conclusions. The dragon is also more powerful out of the box.

That said, ride both and see which one you find more comfortable and prefer the handling of as they both do well.

On another note the dragon has had a lot fewer mechanical issues than the m8 which has racked up a much bigger repair tab (diamond drive failure cost over $2000 to fix) plus some other odds and ends. I think the 09+ m8's should be better since the diamond drive no longer has mechanical reverse which was a ticking timebomb from what I have seen.

Hope this helps.

just got an 09 sno pro m8 and love it, it is a 100% improvment than the 07 and 08s, seems to run much crisper and more top end, new tunnel is really nice, and man it feels light. Now its getting a pump gas kit hehe:D:eek:

i love how the ms handle for tech stuff, the climb great, and the new track works extremely well imho. but they do handle like crap on the trail compared to the poo. but why are you riding lot of trails with a sled like this anyways right??

I have not ridden either of the new models but the 09 M8 is getting awesome reviews so far. I'd go with that one, just based on what I've read.

i will let you no monday i just bouhgt a 09 m8 153 i got about a 120 miles on it and my good friend just bought a 09 d8 155 with 75 miles on it and we are headed out tommorow for the weekend so we will see i'm pretty excited to see the result

Biggest difference between the two is the ergonomics, the seat and handle bars are quite a bit higher on the Polaris. If you upgrade to the Cat snopro you can get a Boss seat and the cool adjustable bars, but this option might only be on the spring snow check machines, not sure. I'm tall so I like the Polaris better.

Well, what did you find out?

the adjustable bars are only $150 and is a direct fit to any M sled from what Im told... pretty cool.

Why did the Poo fall short? I think their track paddles are too stiff. Good , maybe for spun out or packed climbs, but not too good for loose snow.

This is the opposite of what I have seen. The tracks on my d8 and d7 are incredible in the deep fresh powder. but climbing on windblown slopes with ice you better keep your speed up!
