09 cat over oiling

ok, so i have checked and lubed my oil pump linkage
and it does not seem to be sticking, but the inside of the pipe and y are wet with oil. i just went for my first little 20 min. road ride and ran my oil ratio when i got home and it came up as 20-1. has anyone else had one that bad? my 06 m7 wasn't even that bad originally, and it was super fat on the oil.

also, refresh my memory, if i lengthen the oil pump rod, that lowers the amount of oil....correct????

My 09 pump sticks about 1/4throttle when idling i average 28:1 and my dealer says if i adjust it i loose my warrenty because they adjusted it to CAT specs and i run Legends oil that is probably thinner wgt than CAT oil. they also suggested that if I myself put on an additional spring on the oil pump it might fix the sticking pump that they will not acknowledge as a problem nor have they herd from any other cat dealer or rider about such a problem.

I hate it when dealers are little beotches like that

This is a common problem even in Yakima. For more information if you haven't already found it checkout the following post on the M-series subforum. 2009 M8 oil pump sticking. Right now ( monday night) at 9:50 its on page 2

That is to bad the dealer is like that, I had the same problem on my 09 M1000 took it in to the dealer, which they replaced the oil pump for a new one. All covered by warrenty.

Bad pump?

My 09 m8 used way too much oil, almost twice as much as my buddies 09 hcr under the same condtions. After a days ride I would get a puddle of oil that came from the center rib of the nose peice, basically dripping out of air box. Cat 1st replaced both check valves, didn't help, then replaced oil pump, that was the fix.All under warrenty, good luck.

i started a different thread because i am not convinced mine is sticking
i think mine is set to the wrong ratio.

I couldn't decide if mine was sticking for sure or not, but I was getting 28:1 out of it too.
So I added some more wrap to the return spring just for good measure while adjusting the rod.

I lengthened the rod by two turns and it yielded a perfect 49.6:1 overall ratio.

Remember that each sled can be different, blah blah blah, so double check your ratios first. Then run some premix in the tank after while you recheck, and recheck again.

For me it worked perfect. No more loading up and black plugs, and no more taking 8-9 pulls to start warm.
