09' Assault

I am working about 1000 miles from home and the new assault. I was just wondering if anyone has had theirs out in the snow yet and honest opinions. What was the performance of the track? Sled as advertised? Power? Anything.........I just want to see what I have to look forward to.

not enough snow to get a real good ride in (~2+ft), and I'm new, but I got to ride a 08 700 back to back with a buddies new Assault. His Assault seemed to dig a bit more than everything else we had out that day. Could have been the snow conditions though. Power is no comparison. That thing rips.

The suspension is also awesome. We built a small jump ~4ft or so and it soaks up everything. Just floats awesome! Corners awesome, rides perfect. Waterbars and washouts across the trail were a blast, where the 700 would fight you and throw you around or bottom out, the Assault just took it all and begged you to ride harder.

Can't wait till mine gets here and the snow starts falling again!

Again, take this for what it's worth, it was only me second time on a sled, but riding the stock 08 700 back to back with the new Assault, there is no comparison. Absolutley loved how the Assault rose and felt. Made the 700 feel like a slow, rough riding POS.

Honestly I liked the assault in 2' - 3' of snow and ripping down the trail on the way in. But after having it out in the deeper snow 3' - 4'+ I wasn't nearly as impressed. If a tough, big jumping, ditch banging rocket is what your after it's a great machine.

I'm selling the Assault, keeping my Dragon and buying another RMK instead.

hey mag, chances are that is just the stiff track? I know polaris makes a 5.1 track for that and polaris says it goes in the deep much much better with the other track....

Yea, I saw that track up close and it is EXTREMELY stiff. It will be a great hillcross/climb track or in set-up snow, but it is going to trench big time in powder! Kinda like the old mmax tracks. Don't be so quick to get rid of the sled til you try a track swap for the pow.

It's definetely a fun machine but the front suspension and track would both need to be changed to make me happy with it, I can't justify spending another $1500 to get the machine where I'd like it to be.

assault

I have 50 miles on mine with slp pipe and can, intake kit, torque stop and It is awesome. It carrys the skis like crazy and rides great.

i agree with you, 2' - 6' of snow assault work great but 6+ it sucks.
I like the engine and i like the handling. But track sucks.

Just rode my Assault in Valemount last weekend for the first time. The first day we rode in an area with heavy snow with about a foot of fresh snow on top. It seemed to trench a lot and didn't work as well as I thought it would. The next day we rode in about 3 feet of fresh and it was a completely different story. It's a lot of fun and handles like a dream. It's going to be a fun sled in the trees, boondocking, on the trail up, etc. In it's stock state it's not a climber, but I think with the right track it would be a different story. It works well in about 2-3 feet of powder, but anything more it will trench, especially if it's heavy snow with not a lot of base to it.

It will take a few rides to learn what the sled is meant for. It's not meant for climbing, it's made to be rode hard and have fun with - that's why I'm going to like it.
