08 tundra or 09 f150?

i'm looking to get either an 08 tundra crew max 5.7 or an 09 f150 5.4...

I usually pull a two place enclosed, occationally an open car trailer and my dad's 4 place enclosed (less than 100 each trip). right now i have an 06 chevy crew with the 5.3l; and it does everything i need. i do take quite a few road trips to california and utah from idaho so the mpg of the tundra is a downside (most get 13 empty around town) Also looking at the ford propaganda on the new f150 has me questioning the durability of the tundra?

What are your thoughts / experiences / reccomendations?

Not knocking either truck but who's economy do you want to support, Japan's or the USA? Pretty simple decision in my book because the F-150 especially the new one is hard to beat. It's a win win on the F-150!

I would lean towards the Tundra if you can get a good deal. I was in a similar situation last year but opted for the 08 dodge with the 5.7 just because I got a steal. Neither truck will do well on mpgs in the city, they are big V8. I have not personally test drove the new Ford but the 5.4 is still weaker if you are looking at the numbers of Hp and Tq. Also I would never pull what Ford claims the 150 could do with a half ton or the tundra for that matter but it doesnt sound like you will be close to that mark. With my Dodge I pulled a little of 7k from washington to texas and it did just fine and got around 10mpgs. And for the buy US products, the Tundra is built right here in San Antonio meaning they are paying US taxes for their factory.

Tundra all the way will be a better investment in the long run and By the way they are made in TEXAS by americans, only thing Japan is the engineering!!! Almost 400hp and 20-22 mpg (hiway empty), quiet ride very little problems it will tow a 2 place like it isnt their, oh and Traction control, electric limited slip diffs, push on the fly 4x4 awsome truck in the snow!!!!! Fit and finish are awsome, no squeeks or weird noises!!!:D:D:beer;

Buy the Tundra

Buy the Tundra and don't look back. I get around 16 mpg real world driving and around 14 mpg with my 16 foot open trailer. Both companies put out a good propaganda infomercial, so ignore that. Test drive both and tell me the power of the Tundra isn't addictive.

I have a 08 tundra for a work truck I have never disliked a truck as much as I do this one. Yeah the 5.7 has lots of jam but the fuel milage is horrible. Have a Titan for personal use also an older 7.4 chev 1 ton, prefer the chev over them all. Myself if the choice is between the ford and toyota I'll take the Ford and I despise Ford product.

have you ever got 20 mpg? the best i've heard is 18...

The new F-150 is a hell of a truck. You should go drive one. The new 6-speed automatic is awesome and the new interior is fantastic too. They have a new locking rear differential too.

The Toyota isn't a bad truck but I think the F-150 is a better choice.

New Dodge is the nicest half ton hands down!!! But if you have to have one of the other two SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESS!!! No jap crap.

Yes on the hiway I normally get 21 thats a mix of mountain and flatland cruising @ 70 have seen 22 but thats not the norm, I not only check it by the display I do a manual check also and 21 is the norm, I do have exhaust and intake mods also!!! As far as leg room I don't know what you guys are talking about I am 6'2" and have absolutly no leg room issues:confused:?????? Maybe you guys have a 60" inseam:D???? And as far as buy local, My toyota dealer employes local people and they take care of any issues no matter how small!!!! :D Oh and as far as jap crap your Ford,Gm,Dodge have alot of its parts made in other countries also!!!!!! Now If I were gonna buy a diesel it would be a Duramax or Dodge!!!!!

get the f150... it maybe under powered but its a good tough truck . plus tundras are fugly

Well that all depends if you want a real truck or a cheap imitation wannabe. I'd go with the Ford but obviously I'm biased. The Ford is a real truck with a real frame and durability under it. You can't even load a heavy 4-wheeler on a tundra without the tailgate snapping in half, come on.

You don't have to listen to me go drive both! I have and there isn't a comparison. The toyota has pretty decent power, I'll give it that. However it looks terrible (subjective) and worse it feels terribly cheap (grab clunky plasticy door handle and shifter). The new ford lacks the big power but has great low end torque and are you buying a mustang or a truck? It's very smooth proven and reliable. A friend towed his two place trailer down here from Spokane and no joke averaged 7.2 MPG he works at a Toyota dealership and was asking me to trade him out on a ford all weekend

Like I said you don't have to take my word for it drive them both and see which is the best for you. If you decide with the ford shoot me a pm, I'm 120 miles south and can help you out! Cheers:beer;

I love the mileages everyone posts on their pickups. My new 6.4L got 42mpg the other day on interstate doing 78mph oh yeah did I mention I was going down a hill. Buy what you like and which dealership your happy with but I do know the F150 will hold up to a lot. I could make my 5.4Ls average 19mpg on a drive but I'm heavy on pedal and usually averaged around 14 a bit better when its super cold out a bit better in the summer. I've owned and abused several F150 5.4Ls and they will take it their biggest downfall was the limited slip rear end which I read is supposed to be all new. Pulling a heavy steel 4place open from ND to MT heavy on the pedal in cold weather I got around 8mpg with my 5.4L ext cab. I've put 2500#s in the box many times, pulled 9000#s with trailer and loader a decent amount near the farm, and a 13000# corn head from Minneapolis to central ND. It doesn't like it but they'll take a lot of abuse. Needless to say I was probably long over due for getting a 3/4 ton and I wouldn't want to buy one of my used half tons but I know what they will stand up to.

I bought a new 2008 Chevy 1500 crew and love it but my second choice would have been the F-150. Dodges are inexpensive for a reason, they feel cheap inside and have to have the weakest sheetmetal of the big four(try pushing in a bedside). I personally liked the interior of the chevy better but the Ford was nice and at least it has a real frame.

My old man just got an 09 F-150. Sweet room in the back. Almost mega-cab room, save the 8 inches behind the rear seats.

Terrible power though. Completely embarrasing. The $14 general tires are a nice touch too.
